Peck could be a blocking liability against top left side hitters, but she is skilled offensivley on both pins. Her offense on the D set is also strong from the right.
Lagarde has potential and last year I thought she needed work on basic technique. So far, moving to the right has helped that tremendously. Wine also played RS at Pacific.
All in all a lot of our players have played and can play multiple positions.

I feel like the 5-2 is a waste unless the setter is a legitimate blocker, a la Huskie at Florida last year as a 6-2 setter and the system at Pitt. I think it’s great that the coaches seem to be willing to adjust the system based on results as opposed to talent on paper.
I understand the desire for a 5-2 being in place to let Cox run offense out of the back row but if you’re going to use two setters, use two setters and have a third option in the front row. If you’re going to do that I think you could use Ari as the second RS. I haven’t seen Peck yet but Haley McCorkle was sub-6 foot when she played RS for us, too.
I’m disappointed if the “A” team didn’t include Wurl. I thought Díaz was solid but I’m confused how Wurl filled the libero spot at the scrimmage but isn’t at a minimum the DS for Harrison.
I’m sure we will see quite a few different lineups at the scrimmage this weekend. Bummer I going to miss it.

I also will be disappointed if Wurl does not get the L spot or a DS position. She has proven in practice and at the scrimmage that she is most defensively sound. I also will not make the scrimmage Saturday....be nice if UNC would stream it like other schools stream theirs or even live stats....but volleyball never gets the same coverage.

[ I am sure there are a lot of moving parts still with these lineups and we won’t see a “final” one for a bit. I think at this point Joe is asking everyone to earn their playtime and making it clear what they need to do to get on the court. I agree that IF you are going to sub the setter anyway, it would make sense to put a third attacker in the front tow.

I hope that Joe and staff will award starting spots based on the talent level and team chemistry of what is going to work best. he tends to lean on experience even if the experienced players are not the best ones on the court.....this is a team where I think we should see at least 2 true freshmen on the court and one redshirt if it is based off of Saturday.
If anyone finds a way to stream Saturday if UNC doesn't keep us updated. Excited for them to play another team.

It was exciting to watch the Blue/White scrimmage last Sat.
Blue team: -I loved the energy level this team had, specially from Howard, Mia, Moseman, Diaz and Archer. -When Howard and Lauren were on the court, this team outscored the white team sometimes by 8+ points. Once they were out, the white team got closer. -It is great to see the comeback of two players (Lauren/Diaz) after been sidelined for a year due to injuries. -Great work by Archer, including great defense plays. White team: -Parker has huge potential and she is the best serve receiver from all of the hitters -Wurl is playing great. She has a great chance for the L spot -Cox is still on/off but seems a lot more consistent than previous years. -Unfortunately this team remind me sometimes to the UNC team for the past 2 years.
Although Atherton was on the losing side for all the sets, she did a good job. I liked how kiki is working hard with the 2 setters.
I hope Joe gives a chance to the new players. Lets remember that Stanford won in 2016 with 4 regular freshmen.

Lets remember that Stanford won in 2016 with 4 regular freshmen. Good insight. I also like Kiki and her interaction with the setters. Joe knew what he was doing when he got a volunteer coach with setting expertise. This year has a chance to be a huge turnaround. It may not happen, but the pieces are there to return to the Top 25. If you take your top players from each team from Saturday; Blue (Howard, Harrison, Archer) and White (Austin, Cox, Clark, Wurl) that is a stout lineup although I know we will see Mia and Atherton in there to.

This is obviously for 2021, but congrats Mabrey. Cannot wait to have her and Harrison together.

CANT WAIT to have Sophie next year. She will finally help with our middle question marks alongside Howard. Have not heard about Buckley, but with Mitrovich as the committed setter for 2021 and our pin depth, not sure if she is on the radar. I know for 2020 we have Fischer, Reed, and Merkler coming in. 2020 is Shaffmaster and Mitrovich. Who am I missing?

Cute interview/article yesterday on Prepvolleyball.com featuring "Take 10 With Mabrey Shaffmaster" (OH 2021 UNC recruit) She will fit in very well at UNC....reminds me of Scoles a lot, personality and potential. In 2019 news, Scrimmage against CCU tomorrow!
