The transfer rules are different this year than last. Coaches can no longer restrict athletes from going to particular schools, they do not have to get permission to talk to other schools, etc. Yes, this looks bad. But, I don't think Eve would have recruited her behind Joe's back. Since Ava had no choice but to stick it out this year since she enrolled early, I would not be surprised if she expressed her feelings to Joe long before the end of this season. Especially since she added herself to that transfer list very early. And from we hear about Joe, I don't imagine Joe would tell one of his athletes they couldn't go somewhere. Not exactly accurate based on my understanding (as explained to me by a friend so I definitely could be wrong). Once athletes are on this new transfer portal they have unrestricted contact but schools CAN restrict the one-time transfer waiver in part (specific programs) or in whole. I believe that can be appealed, though. Didn't Bell play considerably through the end of the season? I find it hard to believe that any coach would give playing time to a player who expressed a desire to transfer. Heck in most instances here the news of a transfer was precipitated by someone noticing the athlete being removed from the roster online or someone leaking info from the portal. IIRC news of Bell's transfer didn't hit here until the end of the regular season.

Coaches and athletic departments can't even talk to staff members without getting permission (more of a formality). That's not even remotely true.

You're right - I totally misspoke there. Sorry. I am thinking more of football and basketball where if employees are under contract other schools have to get permission before reaching out to them. Or, at least, that used to be the rule with permission to contact.

IIRC news of Bell's transfer didn't hit here until the end of the regular season. Someone more knowledgeable than me will need to confirm, ha! But these are excerpts from the NCAA site: "The Division I Council adopted a proposal this week that creates a new “notification-of-transfer” model. This new system allows a student to inform his or her current school of a desire to transfer, then requires that school to enter the student’s name into a national transfer database within two business days. Once the student-athlete’s name is in the database, other coaches are free to contact that individual." "The previous transfer rule, which required student-athletes to get permission from their current school to contact another school before they can receive a scholarship after transfer, was intended to discourage coaches from recruiting student-athletes from other Division I schools. The rule change ends the controversial practice in which some coaches or administrators would prevent students from having contact with specific schools. Conferences, however, still can make rules that are more restrictive than the national rule."

Will still be curious as to how and if the roster changes from now until spring season. I'm looking to see both Mike and Susan more acclimated and wonder still who may transfer or redshirt due to roster size.

Well... that should answer any Eve succession questions. Probably wasn't even a twinkle in Joe's eye.
My guess is he wanted to prove he could succeed without Eve & Co. (which he has done before)

Validating Eve's decision.

Congrats to Joe. 29 years on one yer contracts, he finally gets a few years security. Is it guaranteed? Means nothing without guarantees, only window dressing. If you are on a roll, a coach would do one year deals. Who gets guaranteed money in volleyball?

If we are labeling this a “turnaround”, I wonder where he will begin. What low hanging fruit will he first tackle to make an immediate impact? What does he have in store to drastically rebound from an abysmal 2018?

I do think it is reassuring to current players and recruits although this was done back in September, that the athletic department and others at Carolina have faith in him to turn it around and right now there are no more drastic coaching changes as of now.
Last year the main issue was lack of offense and a leader. I expect both of those issues to be addressed in the spring as well as with the new recruits. But we all know that we could get a similar season or a drastically better one depending on how things shake out.

Probably see a lot of experimenting in the spring. Probably see Wine on the Left as a 6 rotation, I think Harrison and Cox both experiment playing the second left pin and the other the opposite, Esterly in the middle and time split between Howard and Clark. Howard may also test the OPP. I think Atherton and Fradenburg stay in their respective positions with Greer possibly moving to Jacob's unless Joe has 2 six rotation OHs and a 6 rotation OPP.
