Interesting to see Russ Rose so blunt in the post match interview. The best Coaches are the ones who tell you the truth, and help you get rid of your ego and selfishness. RR clearly accepts nothing but your best. Someone on the PSU roster said the wrong thing and it got her Coach ticked off.

I’ve watched a lot of roses pressers i I don’t know the last time I saw someone singled out in negative way. Almost makes me wonder if it was between reed and someone and rose was trying to protect Reed and show he has her back. That’s the only reason I see for that comment to be made publicly and not mention name of other player. Showing reed he totally supports her.

I did notice that their was only 1 senior sitting at the table with him. They only had three seniors. Reed leathe and Weiskircher Kind of stuck. Leathe makes most sense to me but it’s hard because taking shot calls from white shows me her ego isn’t too big idk. Maybe we will never know. Like I said though the more I think about it the more I feel he did it to show reed he supported her and was behind her. Why else say she said right thing other did not. As a psu fan it’s bad to say but I guess u wish it’s one of other seniors to not have any part of it hanging in lockroom next year On other hand I am kinda shocked Bryanna wasn’t out there after 5 years with team just like reed. It’s great to have one of the freshman there but they could have easily had a third player out there. There’s a million reasons why she wasn’t. Too emotional being most logical choice but just makes You wonder. Lol We know white didn’t want to get caught with ckn fingers in her mouth again so I understand that plus I think she burns more energy then anyone on the court in a match. She needs those calories.

Score check please? I'm at a boat parade and the reception is horrible at this point 15-8. At the Marina del Rey Boat Parade by any chance? I was at the Naples Island Parade. Too many people slowing down the cell service.

Day later and I'm still in shock by what happened. How Penn State could have so many blocks through the first 1.5 sets, and get so few the rest of the way is really a head-scratcher. Stanford then took the block mojo away from them, and it was the single biggest swing factor in the match. PSU definitely had them though. If Stanford wasn't playing at home, it's probable they would not have roared back to win the match like they did. In any case, coming into the match thought Stanford would win. Thought BYU would win. Continue to believe that the winner of Stanford-BYU will win it all. I am an Illinois fan. Very pleased to see them in the final four. Hope it doesn't play out this way, but my gut tells me Stanford over Nebraska in the title game. From my viewpoint, the blocking situation for Penn State had less to do with their blockers and more to do with Jenna Grey's setting. Almost every ball to the outside was.... inside and too low. This when on for most of the first two sets. Once Jenna tweaked her set location, her outside were getting much better production offensively (and Penn State was getting far fewer blocks).

I think either you didn't understand his comment (which was about things said in the locker room) or you don't understand a major part of what has made him a success: he is unfailingly honest with his players. And virtually without exception, they love him for that. So, certainly entitled to your own opinion, but in my opinion, you are way off the mark. Yes my opinion is that he is an egotistical jerk who throws his team under the bus so he doesn't look bad. IMHO.
This is one of the most ignorant statements I've read on VT in months, and that's saying a lot.

The worn path to success in college athletics and any organization really, is the team taking ownership and strong leaders. Russ was pretty blunt in his assessment and the scenario that played out yesterday was probably repeated about 200 times over in other programs this year. Nonetheless, these press conferences yesterday gave us an explicit, spoken contrast. Go to the Nebraska Volleyball 2018 thread, page 241 and watch the Oregon post match presser and listen to Foecke, at about 3 mins and then again at about 5:45. I believe this is what Russ was looking for. Foecke's point is it doesn't just come out of nowhere in the Regional Final, it starts in June. I'm not saying this to rub it in or to say Nebraska good/Penn State bad. There have been plenty of seasons where Penn State caught the clue and the Huskers didn't. But Foecke and Maloney this year have been especially mature and intentional with regard to culture, communication, etc....and it paid off when things weren't going their way in set 3 of their Regional Final. Having said all that, the Huskers were lucky Oregon upset Minnesota and Penn State was unlucky having to travel to Palo Alto. Resiliency against Oregon is not so challenging as resiliency against Stanford.

I can't upload the photo (too large) but I took a photo Friday night of John Dunning and Russ Rose sitting together. It's possible you have a similarly negative view of John Dunning, but I can assure you he does not share your view of Russ Rose in any way.

I thought it was funny the PSU staff was carrying their own printer back and forth, so they could print from a laptop. Stat sheets, I assume. Talk about old school: no tablets for them.
Tablets can be hacked!
