Doubtful. Don’t think she would have been out there if it was her. But rose is he knows people will speculate someone else if she’s out there. I don’t think it was her though. I just have a hard time seeing any of the freshman bold enough to be in that situation. You know who your playing for and u don’t put yourself in doghouse with coach your first year. Just don’t see it.

It would have been one of the seniors or White as leaders of the team to speak up, goes without saying.

Not sure people are so surprised by calling out players publicly. He has done it a number of times this year. I'm just a little surprised he didn't call her out by name.

Kendall White really turned me off in this regional her behavior was very off-putting I love her competitive fire but maybe she needs to reel it in. Her exchange with Reed when she was blocked during the Washington match after White was covering the block and Reed tried to save her ball hit that had just resulted in a block back caused a collision between her and White. Nia was apologetic and White seemed visibly annoyed and not forgiving. Last night nearly taking the mop away from a young volunteer girl was also in poor taste she could have offered to help or directed the young girl as what to do. Otherwise White is vocal and commands the back row and fires up her teammates I wondered even briefly if Rose was talking about White in his comment. She’s fun to watch just needs to not allow her emotion to make her lose focus.

White has that type of personality which will always cause a lot of people to dislike her, and a lot of people to really love her.

I can't upload the photo (too large) but I took a photo Friday night of John Dunning and Russ Rose sitting together. It's possible you have a similarly negative view of John Dunning, but I can assure you he does not share your view of Russ Rose in any way. Once, at a coaching clinic they did together, Russ told their audience to ignore everything that John had just said! He was kidding, but "on the square".. they have very different coaching styles and appeal to very different kinds of coaches... but they also have a great deal of mutual respect. By the way, the last match Penn State won at Stanford was in Burnham Pavilion (an ESPNw news item stated that it was in Maples, which was being renovated for basketball during the 2004 volleyball season). Though Stanford had a hideous first set loss... wasting five set points (four with the Lions on serve) and losing it (I think 31-29)... they got to a fifth set before they finally succumbed. It was the first sign (at least at home) that this young team (plus senior Ogonna Nnamani) might be special.

also anyone... didn't tonights Tami Alade blocking night remind you of Franci Girard against UCLA in the regional finals 2007... reaction and all You must have an amazing memory to remember specific players' reactions to specific matches over 10 years ago. I certainly don't have that kind of memory. I can remember very few individual performances past 10 years ago. One I do (sort of) remember is Logan Tom's performance in 2001 final against Long Beach State. I won't try to name LBS players' names, cuz I'll mess it up for sure. I just remember that that had many good players, especially a dominant middle, and a great pin hitter. What stood out for me, was that Logan told her middle to just focus on blocking LBS middle; stay with her. Logan said she could handle blocking the pin by herself. And she did. Damn, Logan was so impressive. Also impressive, was how Stanford fought off couple set points in first set. Great match. I was told by multiple volleyball gurus that Stanford was lucky to win that match but did so because (a) Ogonna was more effective in the front row than it was thought she could be (given that her knees were a mess... she had surgery right after the tournament) and (b) Logan "went off". She was Superwoman all day that day. I would add (c) Coach Gimmillaro refused to adapt his game plan... knowing him, that was part and parcel of Stanford's strategy. He was downright Gibbs-ian about in-match adjustments (acting as if they were "a sign of weakness")... and almost never called time outs (ditto).

IMO . . . thowing an unnamed player under the bus at a press conference is a way to not take responsibility as a coach for the result. Not good form.

Compared to what Coach Haley used to dish out, that was a love tap. He would throw setters under the bus so often that I wondered why any setter would want to play for him. Coach Haley was a setter himself... at Ball State, which was coached by Doctor Shondell. He was a reserve and hated it... and talked about it in a famous article (on why transferring for lack of playing time may not be the best thing to do). By staying, he got a chance to learn from one of the best thinkers about the game of all time, went out and became an extremely successful coach at a young age... he's in the JC HOF as a men's and women's VB coach... and then switched over to Division I college WVB (at Texas and USC, with a stretch as the national team coach in the middle).

I agree 100%, but this has been something that’s always been a part of her playing style, which personally I am not a fan of; but again, to each their own.I find there to be a fine line between being a firefly competitor who wants to win, and being a jerk to teammates; not to mention that BS floor whipping crap that happens every match. I’m under the impression that you take your thumping like an adult and learn from it. The tickey- tack stuff just annoys me unbelievably so. None the less, it was an exciting match, and I’m proud of the fight Stanford showed, not to mention the atmosphere. I’ve never experienced that at Maples....more to come next year is my hope.
