Sure helps when Hart has a big match (Friday) or Pittman does (today). Seems like a different player is coming up big every match. Although Pittman has been consistently good since Miller went out.

Ok I am about to be really petty right now. I keep seeing all these Pink uniforms and it has me wondering why Minnesota only has 2 different uniforms. There has been some years such as the Last 2 FF years when they had the standard white and maroon uniforms, but also had Gold and Black. (Not the biggest black fan, but still). Just my observation, but I think a team of their caliber should have more of a selection. Sorry for my superficial post.

Congrats to Pittman on DPoW. She also had a nice interview, post-MSU match I thought.

Also, they said on the telecast that Hugh said Miller had to go back to her doctor last week. I don't know if that was accurate, but it's just another indicator that this is serious.

I have no idea what has happened to Miller but I am going to speak on a personal level. I am trying to let people know, who may be wondering about concussions.
A few days in June after my oldest son's Junior year he was in a serious car accident that resulted in a TBI - Traumatic Brain Injury. Seeing him today you would not know it unless he keeps repeating himself. He lives with short term memory issues but has a great job and is doing well. Depression also goes hand in hand with this type of injury. He is on and will be on medication the rest of his life, in order to function as normal as he can.
He was not cleared to play football his Senior year that fall. He, however, was finally cleared for wrestling after that. But the whole incident just took a very negative effect on him and he ended up not participating in any sports his Senior year in high school.
I think the hardest thing for me was to hear from the doctors that the brain when injured only recovers to a certain point. It never heels to where it once was. To hear that along with the fact that he had to learn how to walk and eat all over again, was very hard as a parent.
I am not trying to say I know anything about Miller's situation. Just to inform people of TBI and any type of concussion. The brain has to heal and sometimes it just doesn't heal fast enough for us who have children in sports. If this is truly the case with Miller, her recovery may not happen for us Minnesota fans. She and her family need to do what is best for Kylie. This is a life long change for both.

I'm watching the Michigan match and I love Jones/Pertofsky's serves. If only Minn could get someone to really rip a serve.

MN holds on to beat Ohio St but is just not playing very well. Unless Miller comes back, we need to figure out a lineup that can compete with good teams. We seem to play our best right now and go on some nice runs with no setter in at all. Couldn't we play most of the match that way? Could McGraw or Pittman play a full match at setter? We had some new players make some nice contributions tonight but it seemed hard to get in a good flow.

I get the sentiment here by Stevlars53, but I would say no. CC is our best passer by a long shot. We'd still get some of her defense if she were a full-time setter, but I'd hate to lose her passing. Pittman would be a lot to lose offensively, although I've been pretty impressed with her setting again. Plus now we aren't sure what the deal is with Morgan not playing against Ohio State, so that's another wrinkle that has to get figured out. I think the 6-2 with Dolonga/Miyabe could be the ticket (although I didn't get to actually watch the Ohio State match where Dolonga played, but assuming she did okay). Otherwise the 5-1 with Bayley with Rubright as a setting sub and yes, either Pittman or McGraw setting. Read more: volleytalk.proboards.com/thread/75992/minnesota-2019?page=164#ixzz63thmQBlV

The double sub with Miyabe and Dolonga was what the Gophers needed.

The range of outcomes that would seem to have reasonable probability for Minnesota are kind of amazing. Depending upon how the health question plays out, you could see them losing in the first weekend to a dangerous unseeded team or being good enough to play on the last night of the season without it being too much of an upset under either scenario.

The team can play well enough to beat most teams IF they serve and pass. Will they? I sure don't know. Also, at this point, Miller isn't going to be able to jump right in and play well. But I'm beginning to think we shouldn't expect her back this season, certainly not at 100%. Diving around on the court is not the best plan for a concussion either. I'd be willing to bet that's why she only lasted two matches. My advice (to myself as much as anyone) is to just enjoy the season. If you can lower your expectations, it is pretty entertaining.

One match at a time. That's what I think Minnesota has to do. I really think the Purdue match will be difficult for them. Purdue is in rhythm, hitting their stride and (Insert cliche' here.) Minnesota, on the other hand, is not. Minnesota has been winning matches just the same, figuring it out as they go. I just don't think trial and error is going to work in West Lafayette, Ind. I'm tired now - new match thread in the morning.

And at least we Gopher fans get a mental break until Sunday! So we can enjoy the other matches this weekend. Looking forward to Penn St at Nebraska.
