Let's see. Given a choice between a coach willing to give a 20 year old a second chance after she made life mistakes that hurt no one other than herself, or a sanctimonious, self-righteous, unforgiving jerk willing to anonymously condemn someone he has never met. Tough choice. Could not have said that better myself...

I was told by someone in the program that Bruna is as good as Quade. Not sure I believe that, but if she is even close, Illinois is going to be really good. She hasn't been able to practice with the squad, has she? Is this evaluation based on her play in Europe? It's my understanding that she has been working with the other young ladies in most aspects of practice, as they are not "coach supervised" practices. I know she knows all of the team well, and assuming much of that comes from working out with them.

Anyone know how many years of eligibility Bruna will have? I wonder if we'll see an official announcement about her this coming week.

Super excited to hear Bruna got cleared! Coach has so many pieces to play with. We could run a 6-2 with Quade & Bruna in the pins, Cooney & Prince at OPP, Mica and Diana setting , Fleming & Hinton Swanson at Middle. Swanson is 6’4” and a blocking force. Best player out of Nebraska this year. Remember Mica also plays OPP , and she’s a lefty if I’m not mistaken which is great for that position. We could play a similar system to PSU when their setter played OPP in the front row.
Holzman should red shirt. We have Collins and Holliwell to back up the pins. Why waste a year of her eligibility if she isn’t going to play that much.

Glad to see this young lady getting cleared..maybe she did or maybe she didn’t make a mistake but at the end of the day the NCAA cleared her so if that’s not enough for people then let’s question every decision they make and every kid they ever cleared..I’m just looking forward to seeing her play.

In all my years of following college sports (I'm 68), the NCAA has been very fickle in their decision-making. It has always been my impression that the 'big time' programs in each sport always escape penalties or disqualifications, whereas the NCAA is quite willing to make examples out of the lesser schools. However, there does seem to be a movement lately for the NCAA and the Big Ten to be more forgiving of individual athletes, and make exceptions whenever they can to benefit the individual student athlete.

Or they found that she wasn’t a pro..it reall seems to be that once they cleared her some peoples will just not accept that it’s for the reasons give. It’s because she is in the B10 or maybe because she is at a big school or maybe she is cleared because she proved her case..anyway doesn’t matter now because she is good to go and I’m looking forward to seeing what all the fuss is about.

Illinois is going to be fun to watch next year with all their pin talent. Middle MAY be an issue but tamas is one hell of a coach, and hell make it work.

He was a setter and understands the problems and weaknesses in a 6-2. The better question is how he will deal with available substitutes. Last year, other than Blayke occasionally hitting the court, there were no subbing decisions to be made. We had one setter, two middles, one opposite and two left side hitters. He occasionally adjusted the receive positions and changed servers, towards the end of the year there was a rotation in which Beth hit right side and Cooney hit left side, and Ashlyn hit on the left side in one service receive. There really were not too many in-game decisions that had to be made. I don't think the starting lineup was changed after the first weekend when Beth was injured.

Been a player and helped coach since late 80’s. Please enlighten us with your knowledge . It’s about putting the best players on the court with the best system to win.

If you don’t have a setter who is capable of running a 5-1 effectively , the 6-2 becomes an optiion. Especially with the hitting talent we have next year. JP made it easy for us. Mica presents a whole different look with the ability to play OPP as she did with the Jr national team

Well, Mr. CAPSLOCK, maybe you should take it up with this guy named Russ Rose. He happened to run a 6-2 at Penn State in 2017 with two pretty decent setters (Detering and Weiskircher). They went 33-2. But I get your point...the fool might have gone 35-0 if he had followed your shouted orders and exclusively run the 5-1. I don't think anybody is saying that Illinois will or should run a 6-2 exclusively, but those of us who do know what we're talking about can definitely see some circumstances with Illinois' two young setters (and some possible rotations with the new crop of middles) where a 6-2 could be very effective in certain situations and against certain teams. As has been correctly pointed out, Mica is the wild card (lefty, very athletic, and a pretty decent OPP) in making this worth evaluating. The Illinois coaching staff has already shown they're inclined to look at and try high-risk, high-reward options. Looks to me like the particular combination of players they've assembled for 2019 will see a lot of experimentation, including whether a 6-2 makes sense.
