So top flight final White Wave has Diana Brown & Jaqueline Quade!! Looks like a red shirt year of weights & training under JP paid off. We are going to have a real dog fight for the setter position next year.

We are going to have a real dog fight for the setter position next year. I am going to tout the coaching abilities of the current Illinois staff once again. Both OH Quade and Setter Brown have made great strides under Coach Tamas and his staff. There is going to be a lot of competition for court time at various positions for the Illini. A very competitive practice gym day after day is only going to make the Illini better and more competitive at actual game time vs. opposing universities.

We are going to have a real dog fight for the setter position next year. Congratulations to both ladies. Quade certainly is no surprise given her development last year into not only a great OH but perhaps one of the finest (if not the best) 6 rotation players in the country. Her improvement in passing was very noticeable last year and would be very valuable in international play. But the emergence of Diana Brown is a real revelation. It's testimony to her hard work and dedication, as well as to the coaching staff's continued excellence in player development. She's one of only 2 freshmen in the White Wave, and as a setter, that's doubly significant. Looks like Illinois is becoming "Setter Central". If you want to become a great setter, and run a great tempo offense, this is where you want to be.

Impressed to hear about Brown and her consistency. As an Illinois fan I did not think she was a B1G player by her athleticism, good to hear she has improved significantly. I didnt watch Brown during tryouts (coudnt find her) anyone have any comments on her play? I did see a little of Mica and she had a lot of location trouble with players. She tend to set the OH too short or set to far out on the slide. She did have quite a bit of inconsistency with Auburn hitters too even though she came a semester early. Mica hitting RS would work too.

As others have mentioned already, it's great to have multiple options at each position finally.

Mica is fighting a back injury this weekend. She went anyway, but she is hurting a bit.
Competition will be fierce for the setting job, no doubt. That is a good thing.

I thought Diana Brown was the best of all the BIG setters in attendance. I was also impressed with Tess Reid, who I'd never seen before.

Seeing Diana Brown make the last white wave can only mean good things for the ILLINI. As a lot of us have said, the competition in the gym is only going to make our team stronger when season comes.
I think a return to the final four isn’t out of the question.

Everyone was worried about our setter position. Now we have two great options. In addition all of our pin hitters get another year of weights and coaching. Throw in Bruna and look out!

There are going to be several deep teams in the B1G, which has become the norm. Who's going to replace Bastianelli? I saw on the first thread there are 2 freshman middles - but have no knowledge of how either of them play? Is Bruna a pin hitter? Having two great setters will make practices and match preparation very high level in the Illini gym. Poulter was one of a kind though, so she's not going to be easily replaced by either of them. Options are always good, though

Options are always good, though Middle will be interesting. Fleming is one, obviously. The other one is wide open. Freshman Ellie Holzman is a MB/OH and the National Gatorade POY. Freshman Kyla Swanson was the top high school player in Nebraska. Freshman Rylee Hinton graduated early and is here this spring. Bruna is an Opp but has played some middle in Europe. Tamas has some talent to work with. Getting them in the right spots is his job.

Options are always good, though I think I’m most excited that we have options and a competitive practice gym. We have depth. Lots of pieces for Coach Tamas to play with. This is something we haven’t had in awhile. We return 4 of 5 hitters. They get another years of weights & coaching. We have two high quality setters eager to jump in and try and take over for Jordyn. We have the Gatorade National Player of the year, we have a 6’4” middle who was the best high school player coming out of Nebraska. We have another middle who is entering college early to train. We have the X factor of Bruna. Who knows, even Hollowell, who has to be at least 6’5” now could be useful on the block. ILLINI fans should excited about the future of the program!!!
