We are a little thin in the middle as projected. I understand that Holzman is projected as a pin hitter who played middle in high school, but is available to play middle, and Bruna reportedly has some experience in the middle. I wonder how much might be thrown at a freshman, whether a freshman can reasonably be expected to work on two positions for the same season. Pin skills are somewhat transferable right side to left side. Middle skills are very different from either of the pins.

Look where the others are going. There are only a few girls in the state that can be elite college players, and they’re not going to Clemson or Ball State. These local awards have more to do with ha team success. Obviously a few losses in Landfair and Rodriquez. Those are the girls we need to stay. I’m not sure, but am guessing they committed before Tamas was there. He probably recruited Rodriquez himself...

Rodriquez committed in July of 2017 about a week after attending Husker volleyball camp where she was offered a scholarship. From the article it mentioned that Rodriquez actually commited before she left from home. It sounds like Kayla Banwarth with her Olympic exprience had a great deal with Rodriquez being recruited.

The problem is that those few are going to Wisconsin, Minnesota, Nebraska, etc. I'm hoping that Tamas and co. can change that.

Weird, huh?

If we can start pulling the top two or three Illinois girls we would certainly be better for it.

After an exciting and successful year, it's clear the future of Illinois volleyball is bright. We have an outstanding coaching staff, some excellent returning players and some very talented recruits committed to Illinois volleyball. While Poulter and Bastianelli will be missed, we have several key players returning. The first contact should be solid with all passers returning and all starting pin players return. Here's a look at the 2019 roster (not including any transfers): OHJacqueline Quade, 6'1', Sr. (Indiana) Beth Prince, 6'3", Sr. (Indiana) Megan Cooney, 6'4", Jr. (Kansas) Emily Hollowell, 6'4", Jr. (Texas) Ellie Holzman, 6'2", Fr. (Louisiana) Kennedy Collins, 6’3” OH (Illinois) MBAshlyn Fleming, 6'4", Sr. (California) Kyla Swanson, 6’3”, Fr. (Nebraska) Rylee Hinton, 6’2” Fr. (Illinois) SetterDiana Brown, 6'0", R-Fr. (Ohio) Kylie Bruder, 5'11", Jr. (Florida) Mica Allison, 6’1”, So. (Illinois) Libero and DSMorgan O'Brien, 5'8", Jr. (Illinois) Taylor Kuper, 5'8", So. (Kansas) Caroline Welsh, 5'8, Sr. (Georgia) Alyssa Eske, 5’3” Fr. (Wisconsin) Lexie Smith, 5'8, Jr. Texas) Emmaline Walters, 5'7", Jr. (California) Madison Chi, 5’8”, Fr. (California) Do Bruda and Allison join the team? Will other players transfer to Illinois? Does anyone transfer from the team? Does the team travel this summer? Discuss. Not seeing Jordyn and Ali on that list makes me want to cry. Those girls made this Illinois team become an elite season along with Tamas. Wish them the best of luck, crazy to know that they wont be on our side anymore.
Anyone have a guess on starting lineup? Heres my guess.
S: Allison
RS: Prince
MB1: Fleming
MB2: Really have no idea, I'm going to say Hinton as of now because she will enroll early and have spring semester
OH1: Quade
OH2: Holzman
DS: Welsh
DS: Kuper LIB: O'Brien
I could see us doing a 6-2 as well because Allison is probably the best RS hitter on this squad. But the fact that theres going to be two setters is going to ruin the pace and tempo of the entire match. I think Holzman will suprise us this upcoming season. She's pretty powerful and smart with her shot selection. I think she just needs to work on her vertical. I personally think Prince is best at RS hitting wise. Blocking wise I think Cooney is stronger.

Why do you have cooney being benched? From the matches Ive seen of illinois, she was usually pretty steady. Not a GO TO but Provided offense when needed

As the season progressed there were an increasing number of situations in which Cooney hit on the left side while Prince hit on the right. It was a function of the serve receive more than anything else.
Does your projected lineup assume Bruna is not cleared by the NCAA or that she cannot crack that lineup? I thought several posters opined that the NCAA would let her play next year.

Isn’t bruna’s Suspension up this summer? Is she coming back for spring semester? Maybe the suspension is up this summer, which is why the NCAA deemed her eligible for the 2019 season? I wish the media would ask real questions in press conferences, so we can actually get answers!!!

I don't think that means that she is automatically cleared by the NCAA, though.
