What is amazing about this is that last year BYU had the #8 recruiting class...back to back years with a top 10 recruiting class is AWESOME. I have followed BYU women's volleyball since the early 90s and cannot remember back to back classes that received this much national love. I used to believe that BYU recruits were marginalized in national rankings--and was skeptical of any national rankings. I may have to change my tune!!!
I am really excited to watch the next couple of years unfold. Regardless of the setting position, which is intriguing (too Bad the Bower setter didn't graduate early like her sister--not sure why she she didn't), it is very likely we could have a freshman on one of the pins. Based on what I saw at the last spring match, Grimmer and/or one of the other pins (probably Anderson, but the others as well)...have an incredible opportunity to get contribute right away. Does anyone know if Grimmer plays back row?
I do love the fact that we have Miller and Lake as anchor senior leaders.

Grimmer plays back row in high school, not sure whether she does on her club team. My guess is that she sees some significant playing time this year. Ballard is listed as an OH now, so maybe she goes back to playing on the left where she did in high school. I’m not sure she ever felt as comfortable on the right. This does seem to be the recruiting class of the pins. None are especially tall (I think they’ll add some height in next year’s class), but BYU seems to have a knack for training players to play well beyond their height, if that makes sense. Whitney and Morgan Bower aren’t twins, so one graduated a semester early and the other is graduating a whole year early. Really curious to see how the setting goes next year. Stapleton did disappear from the roster and would’ve been a junior. As did Emily Bushman who would’ve been a senior, right? Maybe both didn’t see a path to playing time with two AA middles their year or younger and decided to focus their time and energy on school. Couldn’t blame them for that.

Always happy when good things happen to BYU, just wasn’t expecting this class, with #22 senior ace as their highest ranked recruit to make top 5. Honestly, I was thinking just outside top ten.

Sounds like they would have been outside the top 10 if it wasn't for adding Whitney Bower. 3 senior aces + a couple honorable mentions was going to put them pretty even with those outside the top handful of classes. Adding what I am guessing would have been another T50 recruit at a critical position and need was Huge.

Thanks Atticus...I always forget that the setter (Whitney) is younger than the libro (Morgan). I have just always seen them play together. Next year they do get size with Tolman (6'3 and long) and a middle from Chicago that I am hearing is pretty legit as well. BYU has always been a middle blocker factory and I don't see that changing. Pumped that KE and HG are both getting national level experience this summer.

I believe Emily Bushman redshirted her freshman year, so she’s been in the program for 4 years. Her husband is one of the top tight ends in the country, so maybe she wanted to go to football games instead of sit the bench at volleyball games?
Allison Stapleton was a very good track athlete. Maybe she tries that? Word on the street she’s close to engaged to Gabby, OPP on the men’s team. ❤️?

Wow....how could I miss MARY LAKE!!! (I was focused on the middles --but yes, pumped for her experience too at the national level). Very happy to have her leadership on what really is a pretty young team when you really look at it. I went back and found the Chicago MB I was thinking about. Leilani Dodson, 6-1, MB from LaGrange Park, Illinois. My wife met her at the Provo NCAA tourney games last year--thought she was a great kid. Per Volleyballmag, she is a top 25 recruit or at least on their watch list. Love it! volleyballmag.com/girls-fab-50-042319/

Love it! volleyballmag.com/girls-fab-50-042319/Tolman will bring a huge block to the right side and she’s a powerful lefty hitter as well. I think she has major potential at the next level. I have seen Dodson play in club and she’s a quick, dynamic middle who runs a very good slide. Great get for BYU. BYU also recently retweeted the commitment of another 2020 Allie Hakes who is a 6’4” middle. She was on the top team out of Northern California last year. I saw her team beat TAV this year in Vegas. She had some big blocks on their big time hitters, girls heading to Stanford, Penn St, Texas, etc. Hambly, Rose, and Olmstead were all courtside—it was like a who’s who of college vball coaches. Hakes committed soon after as I recall, so maybe that sealed the deal for Olmstead? She has great length and power, was high energy on the court. Their other 2020 commit is Madi Allen, a libero on the VERY good Coast 17 team that is #3 in the country. I have seen her over several years and she’s extremely solid and consistent already playing against extremely high level teams. And it goes on...They have a 2021 OH commit playing on the #1 16s team in the country (T-Street)....a 6-2 6-rotation OH 2023 commit (that’s an eight grader, folks)...Future is looking bright in Provo.
