www.feva.org.ar/noticias/muestra_nota.php?categoria=categoria_selecciones_mayores_femenino_noticias&id=908According to this article (with the help of Google Translate), the teams for the FIVB World Cup have already been determined - they will simply use World Rankings to qualify two teams from each continent. So we have: Hosts: Japan (6) 2018 World Champions: Serbia (1) Asia: China (2), South Korea (9) Africa: Cameroon (17), Kenya (20) Europe: Russia (5), Netherlands (7) N. America: USA (3), Dominican Republic (10) S. America: Brazil (4), Argentina (11) No idea if this is 100% confirmed, but I mean these are the teams I was expecting to see - except I was anticipating Italy over Russia.

CEV should use European Ranking which would exclude Russia and include Italy. I’m gonna double check that but I think Russia is currently 4th in Europe.

Here is what the USWNT gym could look like in 2019: S: C.Lloyd, M.Hancock, L.Carlini, J.Poulter, K.Hunter OH: J.Larson, K.Hill, K.Robinson, M.Bartsch-Hackley, S.Lee, A.Mitchem, A.Anae, M.Foecke, K.Plummer, V.Jones-Perry MB: F.Akinradewo, C.Ogbogu, L.Gibbemeyer, T.Dixon, R.Adams, H.Washington, H.Tapp, M.McCage, R.Alhassan, P.Tapp, A.Rolfzen Opp: K.Lowe, A.Drews, K.Murphy, D.Cuttino, S.Atkinson, A.Holston L: M.Courtney, A.Benson, C.Kan, K.Tupac(Hahn), K.Maloney, M.Hentz Somewhere here I believe is an Olympic Golden 12 player roster. Athlete's are in depth order. NCAA players are at the bottom only because they are pending participation. Any missing names would be cut.
Bolded Players are Tokyo 2020 locks. If they aren't chosen they will have played themselves out of the roster.
Thoughts? Changes? Gibbemeyer is a lock IMO, she is too good and too consistent not to be.

I would rather take a chance with Ogbogu than bring Gibbemeyer.

Thoughts? Changes? Gibbemeyer is a lock IMO, she is too good and too consistent not to be. She's actually one of our most inconsistent players offensively, often struggling to put balls down against elite teams. She might be our best blocking middle, but we seem to prioritize offense out of the position (and kind of have to given the rollercoaster we have on the pins). Gibby does connect relatively well with Lloyd, which can be a plus but if Lloyd continues to struggle...... I'd say she's very far from a lock and may end up on the outside looking in once some of the younger middles level up. I love her personality and emotion on court, but I also don't know if that's considered a positive by the current regime. 2016 was her best chance (and oh man, could we have used her when Foluke went down).

Foluke and Adams are known for being weak blockers. C.Ogbogu was doing really well in Poland but now teams are figuring her out and her level has been dropping and she is showing to be a weak blocker as well. As of right now she ranks are the 6th best middle in the Mid-Level Polish League. She has 39 blocks....Alagierska (POl) leads with 74 blocks. There`s a couple of players with over 50 blocks......And this is because Ogbogu is not even going up against any Top Players in the world.
You certainly can`t have a team in the OG with 3 weak blockers ( Foluke,Adams,Ogbogu)...one of them certainly won`t make it...Gibby and Dixon should take the 3rd spot.

Thoughts? Changes? Are the newbies listed your guess or have you heard from a reliable source that those players will be in there?

What I listed is my preference only. Something I have observed that I think is interesting. Concerning the Top 5 Middles: I’m going to rank them 1-5 in the following categories. These my opinions based on what I have seen. Speed from pin to pin: (in general/during longer rallies) Foluke Chiaka Rachael Lauren Tori Back Court Defense: Tori Foluke Rachael Chiaka Lauren Offense: (Really depends on the setter ) Foluke Tori Chiaka Rachael Lauren Blocks (Stuffs) Chiaka Lauren Rachael Tori Foluke Serve (Aces/Pressure) Tori Foluke Lauren Rachael Chiaka Block Touches/Deflections: Foluke Rachael Lauren Chiaka Tori Not one of them is in the top two in EVERY ONE of these areas. So which 3 would you take? If this info were able to be quantified. I don’t have actual stats to sift through so I am going on what I watched in the 2018 International season (VNL, WCH, Brazilian Friendlies, Pan Am Cup). I’ll post my 3 in the next comment.

My point is that Foluke and Tori will probably be the two frontrunners and Chiaka will have to unseat Rachael and Lauren. I think she is a younger version of Foluke and could probably get close to Foluke’s level of play.
Currently I think Foluke is for sure a lock and the others are all vying for a spot.
I didn’t include Washington on here because I only saw her play in the Pan-Am cup against much weaker opposition.
Washington will just have to stick out this quad because Foluke, Lauren and Rachael will all be over 30 and will probably retire from the NT. She will be a favorite to start during the Paris quad.

Bear with me y’all I wanted to explain my OH predictions.
So the foreigner limit in the Turkish League has created something interesting in my opinion.
Teams are only allowed 3 foreigners maximum on court during Venus Vestel League Play.
With Vakifbank this is forcing Guidetti to bench Rasic so that Robinson is always starting. The only way to get around this is to play Rasic at the expense of Slöetjes. Zhu Ting won’t be benched. This has really given Robinson a chance to shine and IMO step up her game offensively.
So the reason I have Kelsey back in the OH roster is because I feel like she can do more good from there. Is she lights out? No. But she has become very efficient and down right effective as an L2. She is a better blocker than Hill, Larson or MBH IMO.
I just don’t see any younger OH sneaking into the potential Olympic lineup while you have all 4 of your probably Olympic OH lineups each starting on 4 of the best Pro teams in the world (Eczacibasi/Vakifbank/Conegliano/Novara).
That is why I think the four of them are a lock.
I’m also pretty confident that Karsta will make the Olympic Team. Either as a starter or on the double sub.

My ideal Olympic team (I actually dreamt about it a while back and it was glorious)
S: Carlini, Lloyd OH: Larson, Hill, MBH, Robinson MB: Akinradewo, Ogbogu, Dixon Opp: Lowe, Plummer L: Courtney
After this quad Larson retires professionally but plays Libero for the NT. I dig it.
That last bit was just a whim 😜
