It's always good to have more diversity on the team. But your implication is problematic, are you saying the USWNT discriminates on the basis of race in their selection of players?! That is just the whole nonsense about "Karch-is-racist" jab again. Disagree with Karch's coaching decision all you like, but to say he is a racist because of that is a step too far, indicating something is seriously wrong with the poster. The poster never said he was racist, and is not wrong in pointing out that the team has essentially been a group of almost all white girls. Considering the talent level and physicality of black athletes in the sport, one should definitely be questioning how they somehow aren't appearing on national teams (and even further, tend to be limited to 'MB' roles across the sport, in general.) The MB roles don’t have anything to do with Karch, they are given to him in the roles they play, sometimes he’ll switch a pin. I don’t think Karch thinks about race whatsoever when inviting girls. I think he wants to invite the best players that fit what he’s looking for. Many of the best black pin hitters come from Texas, where they notoriously never learn to pass and run extremely slow tempo, which I think Karch is not willing to waste time on. I really don’t think Karch factors in race or outside appearance at all when choosing. He chooses the players that do what he wants the best. Just my thought

Just my thought There’s really just a lack of players of color in general across the board. It’s gotten better over the years and since Karch only recruits veterans, I think we’ll slowly see more and more people of color on the NT as time goes on. I don’t think he’s intentionally doing it, but it could be subconsciously. A lot of people have racist tendencies without knowing it just because society has trained their sub-conscience to be that way.

But someone can draw an implication between the Coach and the roster choice...including why so few Blacks are on the team...

Karch is very stat based (Kelsey at libero). He looks at numbers, passing percentage, etc. If a black player had a higher hitting percentage and passing percentage than Larson, hill, or bartsch, they would be starting.

Can you mention a wing spiker that is playing pro and doing well ? I can't only think of Kristall Rivers, but she plays in a low level league and certainly can't play for the NT at the highest level. Lee is a good spiker in Turkey but her reception is terrible and she often gets replaced when she's on the back. Witney is the worst OPP in the Italian League. Of course she won't be good for the NT. So yeah you should bring it up the list of the black wing spikers playing pro and doing well?!!

It is truly amazing to watch how people can take a phrase like, “I’m glad athletes of color are receiving invitations to train,” and steer the conversation directly off a cliff. Tacit racism is so dangerous.

Molly sauer, who was trying out and invited by Karch as a libero to the tryout, tore her acl on the third day. She could’ve been a nt prospect as she was recognized as one of the top liberos through her high school and collegiate years, making the u18 national team, and the top collegiate national team. She plays the exact way the Karch looks for with serve receive being her best asset. I’m not sure if she’s coming back or not but its sad a possible nt member is no more now

I didn’t see her on the list of invitees, but I’m assuming there are other athletes at the facility whose pro teams are done or who didn’t play this pro season.... There hasn’t been much coverage of the training block, but this sucks as a first bit of news.

It is bad news, she is very very good
