Well, well, well, we finally get a volleyball simulation game. But the most important question remains, would it be any good? This first version will probably suck, but future generations may improve if the game makers decide that there's a market for such a game. That is assuming we will get future versions. If the sales don't meet expectations, this would be it, at least for this particular game.

Big Ben is a horrible game developer. They just released Tennis World Tour and it was and continues to be a huge disaster, despite multiple patches. Hopefully this game is a step in the right direction, but I have low expectations.

Can we make this into a league? Forgive my ignorance towards contemporary video games, but I'm assuming that you will be able to play this online against others? The game can be played online vs others!

Hopefully this game is a step in the right direction, but I have low expectations. I didn't know the developers for this game also released Tennis World Tour. That game is literal dumpster trash and I'm embarrassed to admit I wasted $60 purchasing it. With this info, I would definitely recommend staying away from this "volleyball" game.....

I would never spend $60 for a video game. Heck, I rarely spend more than $10. I mostly play games way past their relevance so that I can buy them for, like, $5. Just last year (2017), I played Borderlands and Uncharted 2 for the first time -- and they were both 2009 games! LOL!

A quick thought for those of you who have wished for something like this for the last umpteen years: Even if you dont think it will be great, or have all the bells and whistles that you want it to have, BUY IT ANYWAY so that the developer will make some money, and think the market will ripe for another sequel with even better options and quality of play. That way, someday, you may have an actual game that plays like you really want it to.
My two cents.

I quit after this and Metroid. Games today all graphics no skill. Something tells me you were an old sonofabish when this 8 bit game came out 30 years ago.

That way, someday, you may have an actual game that plays like you really want it to. My two cents. Yeah I could see your point. The earliest versions of EA Sports' Madden NFL, FIFA or NHL games were pretty crude by today's standards. But over time, as the technology improved and in response to feedback from fans, those games evolved into more sophisticated versions with great playability. Of course, the big difference is that football, soccer and hockey has large in-built fanbases and whether there is a sufficiently large volleyball fanbase for this videogame thus far is unknown. There is also the possibility that this game developer, given it's shaky reputation, will just take our hard-earned cash and not build any sequel at all. Or if they do, it might be a medicore effort, since they know there isn't any market competiton for volleyball videogames, so they can capture 100% of the market by default. We'll just have to see how people respond to this game both with their wallets and in their reaction to how well the game was designed. Another thing, do we know if this game have an official endorsement from FIVB? Since it does feature 50 national teams, I am assuming they have to come to some sort of agreement with FIVB on the rights to create game version of the real life players? Unless they are creating purely fictional rosters on the teams. They could do the fake roster, but not having the ability to play your favorite real life player does reduce the appeal of the game.

Some perspective on game development: You know how in football, the QB can throw a tight fast spiral (short to medium distance) or rainbow lob over the reach of the defender's hands or a Hail Mary bomb? You know how long it took them to incorporate these nuances into football games? Yeah, that's right. Forever. I don't think I saw them until the mid- to late-2000s even though football games had been around since the early 1990s. Imagine how long the game makers will finally figure out that there's a variety of sets -- and pace and height on the sets. This is fair enough, but it's important to remember how limited technology was in the 90s. If football games just started to get made now, it wouldn't take nearly as long for the kind of nuances you mentioned to be included. I think that if current era EA was making this volleyball game and really tried, they could probably make it pretty good from the get-go. That is not the case, however, so I don't have high hopes.

Found some actual gameplay on YouTube
Definitely rough animations on blocking and defense but I like the way that serving and setting choices work.

The setting and serve aspect of the game looks solid for our low expectations. Blocking, attacking, and serving could definitely use some work. Did anyone play Deca Sports volleyball on the Wii? That game was solid for being just one game on a multi game disc, but didn’t have enough depth
