Just wait for the circus that’ll happen the first week of August every year. Kids will be forced to make decisions on quick timelines with less time to explore their options than in the past. But with 6/15 date to start talking, that gives them 2 1/2 months to get to know the coaches and decide what schools to plan visits. Hopefully they tighten up the language and define penalties that have weight as I can see Coaches contacting friends of the family to act as intermediaries and vice-versa.

Problem with the Junior year Sept 1 visit rule is most of these girls are deep in HS ball at that point. I know my daughter’s HS coach would not let her take off time to jump around making official visits. Why not make it July 1 to allow that month before school starts Aug 1.

That is actually funny. you meant that as sarcasm correct?

Usually two to three weekends off in the fall, narrow to a top two or three, if the athlete doesn’t find the right fit and they are good, most college coaches would wait for a November visit when HS season is done. I like summer visits too, but you don’t see a match, get to feel what fall season is really like, etc. Years ago when I coached and athletes actually decided on official visits, they seldom actually made five...often two to three.

Yep, and here is how the conversation goes when a recruit calls. (I didn’t see school could call). “Hi XXXX, thanks for calling, just wanted to share some info with you about our school and program so by August we can see if we could be a good fit.” 😊 Also, yep the matching free weekends with home weekends can be a struggle...and would be a premium for schools hosting preseason tourneys. Again, those with $$ will be able to give good incentives for teams to come. Nothing perfect, but I still think much better. I have yet to meet a college coach that likes recruiting so young. Also, families really don’t want to start so young. They may commit because it is their dream school (which it would be later) or found a school they like and feel pressure it will be gone if they don’t commit.

So calls/emails/letters can go either way (from player to coach and coach to player) starting June 15th after sophomore year. So right before Nationals. That will be interesting. But no talk of an offer until Aug 1, which is typically the start of HS season and when college coaches will be hitting their seasons. And no visits until Aug 1. Just let it all align date wise. Seem much easier to navigate.

And kids should be doing their research and narrowing down their wish list prior to that trigger date.

I see a mad scramble before this is voted on!!!
I like the proposed changes except for the fact that fall HS is way too busy to be adding in weekends away. My daughter only had a few weekends off, and those were used to sleep and catch up on homework. I can’t imagine adding in trips across the country.
It seems stressful to have the coaches starting their seasons and doing official visits with PSAs.
Why not move the communication and timeline up two months? Start communication in April or May, official visits after nationals? Then they can attend camps, etc.

Secret offers, intermediaries, and verbals will be the modus operandi. There is only one way around this: Requiring that all offers to PSAs prior to August 1 at the start of a prospect's junior year 1) be in writing, 2) be immediately registered with the NCAA, and 3) include a contractual offer of aid that is irrevocable once it is accepted. Programs violating this rule should be subject to the loss of one scholarship per violation.
Short of this, it will be cheat, cheat, cheat, with zero transparency, for prospects, their families, or fans.

Questions I have: -Will this result in more transfers due to recruits feeling rushed to make a decision and having less time to get to know the staff and school? Or will this cause fewer transfers because recruits are closer to their college selves when they're making the decision? -What clever methods will college coaches use to get around these restrictions? I see this change giving club and high school coaches a lot more power to be conduits and pass messages between college coaches and recruits, since there can't be any phone calls or email/snail-mail/texting. club maybe....high school not so much. This is what will happen, bank it. Admissions(not part of athletics) will assign certain counselors to a sport, and those admissions counselors will be kept apprised of the top recruits, getting them admissions materials,etc....and here is the email of your admissions counselor, Susie Bluechip. If you need anything, just email your counselor and they would be happy to help. Oh..btw...this counselor is well aware of Coach Wise and her interest in you. Coach Sheffield and I were talking about you at staff lunch the other day. Trust me, the power 5 will find a way, and everyone below will be forced to follow.

Does anyone who posts here actually know how things are working in fastpitch recruiting since they implemented the new rules last spring? Have the new, stricter rules made any meaningful impact? Or is it still too early to tell?
