not just China, but for a few weeks people have been saying how much better Brooke is siding out now than before.

Ross/Klineman imo are going to be a shoo in. Hughes and Summer are right there with KWJ and Brooke but they need to start having better finishes in the 4+ stars. Why’s that?

You must be referring to points, or past performance, because nobody is "right there" with KWJ/BS at this moment except maybe the ATeam... certainly not 2S. And there is the further issue of Summer's back. They haven't played to their potential in the past two tournaments, and the back may be a reason.

It's been her unfortunate career. Her body just doesn't seem to hold up. Hopefully they can get enough points so they aren't pressed for time as it gets closer and don't have to grind through.

so.... thinking out loud here. At this point in time, based on results of the past few months, our two Olympic teams would be ATeam and KWJ/BS. if you're Claes/Sponcil or 2S, how much FIVB do you play vs. AVP? Do the sponsors have any say in it? It seems to me you only HAVE play enough FIVB to secure the #3 US spot, and that's to secure the Olympic berth in the event the ATeam of KWJ/BS are out by injury. Given you're a team playing for the Olympic back-up spot, how much grind and travel do you go though for a 30% or 50% or whatever the chance is of being an injury replacement? And if you're an also ran... that is Day/Flint or Larsen/Stockman, I guess the same question. If you're not chasing FIVB Olympic qualifying points any more, how much FIVB vs. AVP? And if the Olympics are not in the future, does anyone retire b/c that's one of the main reasons they're still playing? And lastly, how do the sponsors of 2S react given the fact that their sponsored athletes aren;t likely to be an Olympic team? Man, the unexpected resurgence of KWJ has really turned over the apple cart. Give it Through Tokyo/ end of July this year. That's (4) 4 * tournaments WC Gstaad 5* That should put each contending team with at least 10 tournaments under their belt.

Well, that's the thing. Once they're out of CQ, and assuming their level of play keeps up, they can pick and choose in the last part of the year, and early next year, when and where they play, thus preserving their bodies. The biggest issue is now that KWJ/BS are a real danger, teams will study them a little more diligently and develop a book on their tendencies, especially Brooke's side out tendencies. That can be worth several points per game.

My two cents, for what it’s worth...I’m not a numbers Girl by any means so I’ll leave the point figuring up to you all... 1. I think it’s way too early for teams to stop playing FIVB because one team is on a roll right now. We could argue that April & Alix are on a roll too because every tourney they enter, they seem to be winning. 2. I believed that is was going to be a CQ battle all summer between a few teams, Kerri & Brooke being one of them because frankly I didn’t think Larsen/Stockman & Em/Betsi were as bad as they have shown this last month. Kelly & Sarah have a huge upswing in my opinion. 3. Kerri & Brooke have yet to beat the ATeam or 2S. So we don’t know what game plan they’ll have when they face these two teams. 4. Sponsorships for 2S & others..Big huge names have invested in this team. It will be interesting to see what happens if 2S doesn’t qualify. The sponsorship bandwagon dropped Kerri once she didn’t sign with the AVP. Huge mistake on their part. Biggest name in our sport may possibly go to her 6th Olympics with p1440 on her visor & uniform attire. 5. The “unexpected” resurgence of KWJ?? The only thing she was lacking was a partner that was willing & able to buy into her game plan. We all knew that Kerri was still one of the best players in the world. What we didn’t know is how Brooke would respond to the pressure of being her partner. Kerri has Brooke confident; Brooke has access to Kerri’s world class fitness & health instructors; Access to her sports psychologist. The list goes on... 6. Pressure...Last but not least, when the going gets tough, which teams will succumb to the pressure of having Kerri & a capable partner breathing down your neck? A few are at the point that they need to start having better finishes than Kerri & Brooke. 7. Health...Just stay healthy because this is so fun to watch!!!

I doubt even you thought Kerri could win with Brooke. A lot of us recognized she was playing exceptional volleyball but if you asked me to bet at the start of the year, I would have wagered she would never be in another final. Agree it is way too early to rule out SS. They have played great volleyball over the last year and have a couple top 4 finishes this season. Best player of the 4 is Kerri, sure, but the least strong is Brooke and Summer/Sara have a high seed which is a big advantage

If for instance the teams repping USA is ATeam and KWJ/BS and BS cannot participate. KWJ will be able to select a partner based on a set of players.

Can KWJ pick Hughes or Sponcil assuming neither are on the other qualified team? Also, regarding Brooke vs. the Sara(h)s, those two make a fair amount of sideout mistakes... I haven't counted but does anyone know whether Brooke (lately) sides out at a better or worse % than Hughes or Sponcil? If so it would be a question of court vision and shotmaking intelligence vs. size, speed, or power.
