Joy has been given time to build the program and will have her best class coming in next season. From a personnel standpoint, Joy has not had a quality and/or experienced setter running her teams since she has been hired (Tuaniga coming in next year should solve that). However, setter aside, this is year three and more growth was expected. Maybe when the injured starters make it all back by conference we will all see the improvements we all expected.

I really like this setter that they have right now. I think she is really good. The hitters need a lot of reps with the setter. Williams is very inconsistent. If she can mix up her shot selection, she can be one of the best hitters in the conference.

Williams best shots tend to be her soft/dink shots, she needs to learn to use them more. at least until she can get better control of her swing, but mechanics are a big issue with that.

I think she's actually much better attacking a high ball. It seems to give her more time for her mechanics to catch up with the ball. This new setter has a lot of location issues, even though her basic setting motion is good. She also doesn't seem to have the strength to set longer range to the pins.

Kash has the physical talent to be one of the best hitters in the country. The question is does she have the temperament and work ethic to realize she has a lot of work to do and then go out there and do it. A lot of physically talented players rely on their physical ability to get by, especially through club and high school. If she buckles down and wants to be the best and puts in the work she can be special.
I know the coaches have worked on her swing, and its a little bit better this season, but like others have stated without a complete overhaul she will never reach her potential.

The LBSU player I have been the most impressed with is Nelson the JC transfer. She has a wonderful attitude and work ethic and has the physical ability and skill to impact the match. It has been too bad that just before the season’s matches started she was injured. Should be back by conference so that is a good thing.

There's a difference between a high ball and a perfect set. My point was that she seems to do better with a higher set than what she's consistently getting. so for her, the perfect set would include it being a high ball LBSU is setting the ball a lot higher to Williams now and it showed in her play this past weekend. That hitch in her swing is not as noticeable when she has to reach high for a ball. I was impressed that she was actually hitting over a lot of blocks against tall and athletic Florida players. She had some questionable swings but when you get as many as she received those things will happen. If she keeps this up LBSU will have a Rasmussen/TVW type player on the outside. Now if the injured players can get back soon and be molded into a good team before conference, LBSU could propel themselves into the top echelon. However, one good match does not erase a pattern of play but hope the team has grown past early season play.

The higher sets--from Chavira to Williams-- was noticeable. Also, Kashauna was more successful in converting more out of system sets. As for the injuries: Canez doesn't appear to be ready to play; Avery Nelson is still out; both Allison Martinez, and Norveel, are both out on concussion protocol; and Carly Hill wasn't on the sidelines. This team, at full strength, will be dangerous by conference.

Unfortunately a charge for the LA Daily news article and not a paper I would give any shekels to.

Unfortunately a charge for the LA Daily news article and not a paper I would give any shekels to. I don't subscribe to LA Daily news and I was able to read the article.
