I'm hoping for a comeback. They are long due for one.

I'm hoping for a comeback. They are long due for one. LB loses a lot with the departures of Spriggs and Kirst. However, they return a lot of solid players in Harward, Xue, Norveel, and Williams. Greece Jr. National Team player-- Ioanna Georgatzi-- is a tremendous six rotation player and should make an immediate impact. Avery Nelson led Laramie CC to a NJCAA Final Four appearance and earned All American honors. This could be a top tier, Big West team.

The biggest concerns for LBSU next year will be setting and how thin they are in the middle. I am sure the coaching staff is trying to shore up those two spots.
Next year should be very competitive in the Big West and I believe the overall level of play should be improved.

Long Beach really needs a dynamic player, whether it's a setter, OH, or middle
the passing and setting just has not developed well the last couple years.
Williams has athleticism, but her skill-set is so underdeveloped I wouldn't qualify her as a a player yet that can elevate Long Beach where it needs to be
hopefully one of these newbies is such a player....Spriggs is gonna be really tough to replace

Is Chavira coming in as a setter? I know she has trained at setter in club but mostly hit in high school.
Hoff will make an impact right away. With her coming in, I think Harward stays on the outside. Kennedy has potential, don't see her starting though.
Martinez was only a freshman and I wonder why Joy never let her consistently play. She did really good at times, had a few bad streaks but can become a go-to for them I think sooner than later.

Joy has a lot of options at OH with Williams, Martinez returning, along with new recruits Ioanna Georgatzi, Avery Nelson, and Katie Kennedy. Hoff is one of the top liberos in the 2019 class; however, I don't see her replacing Harward at libero. As for Eliana Chavira, I think Joy will have options with her at both positions--RS or setter--should Aigner-Swesey falter.

Harward should be penciled in to go back to her original libero position. That means Hoff will play along side her as a DS for her freshman year and then take over the libero position.
Next year is a critical year for Joy and her program. She needs to show significant progress and the establishment of a winning program. I sure hope she brings in a quality transfer setter because I do not see Aigner-Swesy or freshman Chavira being the answer if winning now is a priority. The following year Tuniga comes in and she should be a quality 4 year starting setter.
I believe that with both Harward and Hoff in the back row that from a talent perspective LBSU will be solid defensively. The real issue will be if the coaching staff can finally have the team play as a cohesive unit. The program has all the pieces to be a top defensive pass and receive team.

Joy just needs to keep the ship afloat until Tuaniga gets in. This '19 class is solid, then if she can nab a middle with Tuaniga, you start seeing the pieces to a really good team.

Long Beach has their middle in Starr Williams, but not until 2021. She's a sophomore at Los Al HS. She had 14 kills and hit .350+ in the CIF SS final victory. She's got a very high ceiling, literally and figuratively. Mia's brother will have graduated by the team she arrives on campus, so keeping her is a bit of a concern as well. I think coaching is the biggest issue with LBSU. They're a good blocking team, but really inconsistent in every other aspect of the game. They have to start showing some solid player development to keep the troops motivated.

Los Al used her to block there often because they had no one else to put there.

It is so good for volleyball fans in Southern California when LBSU fields a good team especially with UCLA struggling and USC starting to slide.

On the court leadership huge intangible.
LBSU seemed strong in spurs,...need consistency.

What was it, 1998 when the the Beach won their last title? I seem to recall they beat RED like a rented mule in the '97 tournament also. I guess that was near the end of the glory days when LBSU was one of the most feared teams in the Women's game.
