I prefer keeping the Forty niners as the mascot for Long Beach State. However, the new Sharks mascot is a hell of lot better than an anteater.

Oops, I quoted your post before you edited it, so it might not make sense now. In any case, there's your reason.

LBSU with a pretty solid out of conference schedule! Hopefully, the first week will help solidify a clear line-up that will be ready to take on much tougher competition in the following weeks. If they can get at least two wins over the following teams: Texas State, UCLA, James Madison, Florida, USC, and San Diego, plus, wins over the rest of the field, I think they can put themselves in great position to get an at-large bid (finishing in maybe the top 3 of the Big West).

I agree--this is a pretty solid out of conference schedule. The team will be tested often, and early, as there are only 11 home games in 28 total contests. If they can finish .500 out of conference, their tough preseason schedule should propel them to the upper division of the Big West.

It sure would be nice if LBSU can pick off a couple of solid teams in the preseason. I would like to see them win against the local teams the most: USD, USC and UCLA.
The development of LBSU ‘s setter(s) will determine how well this team plays this season. Hopefully one of the two grabs the bull by the horns early in double days and is a fast learner. LBSU has some good young hitters but they still need to learn how to hit the not so perfect set and they probably will get a bunch of those throughout the season.
I sure hope the team is playing in good form by the second week of non conference because they need to show significant growth this season. The following year the highly touted setter comes in and it would be nice if the other elements were up and running... ready to make some noise.

Joy is bringing in another quality back row player but Jade will have to fight for playing time for sure. Harward, Hoff, and Hill will be a great defense to watch next season. Once Tuaniga comes in 2020, this team can be pretty good.

Once Tuaniga comes in 2020, this team can be pretty good. I agree--the back row will be solid for LB for the next 3 to 4 years. I would love to see Harward back at libero with Hoff and Hill subbing in at DS. The Beach will arguably have the best back row in the Big West. The biggest question mark remains at the setter position. Will Aigner-Swesey be much improved this season-- with a better connection to her outsides and middles-- with fewer double contact violations; or, will Joy insert Eliana Chavira at setter?

Chavira played setter for her club team for several years. At Aquinas HS, she was her team’s top hitter earning ALL CIF First Team honors her junior and senior years. Chavira will be utilized as setter this season if Aigner-Swesey is not effective.
