All I can say is WOW! Adrenaline is still coursing through my veins after perhaps the most thrilling volleyball matchup I have ever seen at the prep level. State #1 Central hosted State #2 Northeastern for yet another guaranteed thriller and final regular season game. Not only does this game determine bragging rights for which team is possibly the best in the state, but it also determines who earns the League title. Northeastern got off to a very fast start and played perhaps the best set of their season. They easily won the first set after dominating both offensively and defensively and played a virtually error free set. Riding high on their confidence, Northeastern also won the second set with relative ease. Their new lineup really seemed to click. Central bounced back and took the third set, but not before Northeastern made a late rally which gave them momentum heading into the fourth set. There was little doubt how the fourth set would go as Northeastern quickly took control and never allowed Central to establish a rhythm. Northeastern was impressive and if this is any indication of how future matchups between these two squads will play out, we are all in for an exciting run through districts and beyond. PA prep volleyball at it's absolute best!!

Snapshot of the action last night. Neither team played clean. Intense, but way to many errors for both.

What was their game plan, if I can ask??? I missed my sons game to go and watch this. It seemed to me Northeastern just made more great plays and had fewer errors. Sorry not taking the bait on this one.

Sorry Folks for being AWOL the last few weeks. I got sick then my sister was stricken ill in Wyoming and needed a hand ( No internet, No really). Needless to say, other things took priority. I have been keeping tabs on PA play and hope to get up to speed in the next few weeks. However, I am thrilled to see this thread to finally have some serious traction. I tried to start it a few times over the last 12 years under different usernames. I have a unique talent for forgetting my logins and passwords. Well after reading all the posts over a few times, sounds like things are gearing up to be a insane District 3 AAA tournament. I cannot remember a time where the top 10 was dominated by a certain district. I really can't say too much, because I only like to talk about things I see in person. A road trip might be in the works for May 24th. Got to see what the heck is going on in District 3.
Anyone want to throw out their biggest surprise teams this year.
Sounds like there are a few that should get some votes.
I have no idea how to set up a poll. But that would be cool, if someone could add one.

My vote for “Darkhorse” of the season so far is Greater Latrobe. An undefeated team in the regular season that beat the #1 team in the state at the time, Central, only to lose to Northeastern in the State College final. It is a team of mostly seniors that have been playing together since middle school. Look for them to possibly make a deep run in states. From all accounts Shaler may be one to watch as well.

Latrobe has 2 quality outsides in Alex Ryan and Reed Fenton, and also beat Bethel Park something like 35-33 in an early tournament single game playoff. North Allegheny, Latrobe, and Bethel Park are the clear AAA favorites from western PA, though Bethel needs OH Max Cooley to stay healthy. Shaler has been doing well in large part because they have solid ball control. Shaler has more guys with club experience than most western PA HS teams (8 or 9), but they are undersized. That will show up when they play the top teams where they don't have a clear ball control edge.

I will have to go with Warwick for my surprise team. Not a surprise that they were good, but that they were exceptionally good all year so far. They won arguably the best league in the state from top to bottom. Just that alone is very impressive. They have also performed very well in tournament action. Latrobe has had a great season thus far as well, but I don't think they would have gone undefeated in the Lancaster Lebanon League. Super impressed by both teams. The next 4 weeks are going to be intense. So many high caliber teams. Any team that gets out of District 3 into the State round is going to be a tough match up for anyone.

Maplewood was ranked 8th in AA as of last week, but this week they are not in the top 10.
