Was in attendance. A lot of the time when people talk about this match they talk about two heavyweights exchanging blows, and while that is true when it comes to many of the athletes on the floor- specifically the explosive athletic hitters. But I walked away more impressed at the game behind the game- the chess match between Wilson and Goodling as well as the protege's Richards and Anderson. In game adjustments- multiple serve receive arrangements- in match split second decisions, the real battle took place behind the curtain between the coaching staffs. Entire match was exciting with great environment. Not always the cleanest match- but certainly hard fought. A few iffy officiating decisions in 5th set stretched the score a bit more than what I thought was deserved. But Northeastern certainly earned the win- especially with an excellent defensive performance from libero to close out the match. Fairly confident that these are the best two teams in District III if not the whole state and would not be shocked to see a rematch next Friday.

Some great match-ups tonight in Round 2 of District 3 at Northeastern HS Warwick 14-1 vs State College 11-3 (two very talented teams) Northeastern 13-1 vs Exeter 14-0
and at Cumberland Valley Cumberland Valley 16-0 vs Chambersburg 11-5 Central York 12-1 vs Hempfield 14-1
All of these match-ups close enough that an upset could happen?

A Couple of close matches at Northeastern last night. State College and Warwick were back and forth all night. State College pulling out win in 5 sets.
Northeastern blew through first set in impressive fashion. Exeter had the block going all night on Northeastern's big hitters. Bobcats struggled to get back into rhythm and it was close battle from there on out. Depth in the end in the form of Soph. Opposite hitter Braswell was the difference.

State College is situated in District Four. But when the Little Lions joined the Mid-Penn, they were also phased into District Three for playoff purposes.

WPIAL Championship / Consolation results:
Class AAA #1 North Allegheny beats #2 Bethel Park 3-0 for the championship #3 Shaler beats #4 Latrobe 3-0 in the consolation match
NA was in control the entire match in the championship. Bethel could score, but couldn't string together runs to get ahead.
For Shaler-Latrobe in the AAA consolation match, Latrobe was without OH Reed Fenton. When Alex Ryan was back row, Latrobe didn't have anyone who could consistently terminate against a defensively solid Shaler team. Word was he had a basketball commitment.
PIAA seeding 1. North Allegheny 2. Bethel Park 3. Shaler
Class #4 Ambridge beats #2 Seton-LaSalle 3-1 for the championship #1 Derry Area beats #3 Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 3-1 in the consolation match
In the Ambridge-Seton match, both teams had some big kills and blocks from their top guys, but Ambridge won the lion's share of the long rallies with superior defense. The Ambridge middle blockers were key to disrupting Seton's offense and challenging their hitters.
For the Derry-Our Lady of the Sacred Heart match, the OLSH team played hard and kept it fairly tight in all but the last game, but had trouble dealing with Derry's superior height.
PIAA seeding 1. Ambridge 2. Seton LaSalle 3. Derry Area

OK, young bucks. Time to put your money where your mouth is! I want to everyone's predictions before the season starts. You can change them as the season goes along, but lets see how everyone thinks this season it's going to shake down right now. Here are mine: AAA NA vs. Northeastern 5 set epic match with NA winning and defending their title! AA Derry vs. York Suburban 4 setter with Derry grabbing gold! Good luck to everyone. Let's get ready to RUMBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! New Predictions anyone? I haven't seen nearly as much live action as I would have hoped, but I talk regularly to many who do and with opinions I trust. 3A North Allegheny should come out of the bottom bracket. But any teams from District 3 bracket, could come through and I would not be shocked. They have been exposed to a much more pressure packed regular season and post season. 5 setters were a common occurrence over there. Top bracket is a two horse race, in my opinion. A Centrel York vs. Northeastern matchup for the umpteen time, looks pretty ominous. I would have to give the edge to Central right now. However, most of my inner circle agrees that Northeastern is almost unstoppable, when they have it going. They are by far the yoingest team in the 3A field, but struggle to find consistent. 2A The top bracket should come down to another York Suburban and Manheim Central rematch. Anything else would be a complete surprise. The bottom is alittle more open with three teams with the chance to go to Penn State. Ambridge, Derry and LeSalle are the clear favorites. Here we go.....

I have seen all of these teams play multiple times except Bethel Park, Seton LaSalle and Meadville (who knocked them out last night.) York Suburban and Manheim are the best in 2A. Too bad same side of bracket. One of them will hoist PIAA Gold. The depth in 3A is evident...Bethel Park and State College should be fun matchup. NE and Central yet again. With NA out of the bottom of bracket. Any of those three would be no surprise.
