Well Sports Performance and 352 ended up in the same pool in 16's open as 7 & 8 seeds. Neither of them wanted that to happen. Haha.

Here's the AES link, for those interested: results.advancedeventsystems.com/event/PTAwMDAwMTg3MDg90/home?_ga=2.84070045.52619923.1580737482-573235004.157799744216s: there are 7 teams with Open bids, and 6 teams with USA bids competing in Open (assuming Excel accepted the USA at Southwest). There's zero chance that trickle down will NOT be a factor for bids. The flow looks interesting, with 3rd in pools going to a "play in bracket," and the 2 winners there staying in G1 - I like the opportunity for recovery, which we've not seen in any of the bid tourneys so far this year. Initial view of the seeding - All of the open qualified teams are 1's, with the exception of SPVB Elite (BORINQUEN is 4). K2C2 seems spot on as the 1 overall for this field (a very solid team, IMO), and 352 got a bit hosed, yet again, getting the last of the 1's, and drawing SPVB on the serpentine (or vice versa, I guess, depending on your perspective). The one SCVA team (Cal VC, at 17 overall) should progress to R2G1, and it'll be interesting to see how they do.

I know the AES rankings aren't perfect, but how does SPVB 16 Elite get seeded 8th in the open division of the Lafata tournament when they are 5th nationally? According to AES, they are ranked higher than every other team seeded higher than them in the tournament.

I know the AES rankings aren't perfect, but how does SPVB 16 Elite get seeded 8th in the open division of the Lafata tournament when they are 5th nationally? According to AES, they are ranked higher than every other team seeded higher than them in the tournament. AES rankings are, candidly, a bit of a joke, and seems favor those teams/leagues that utilize AES for their local tourneys or submit their results (see MVVCs; and... it's giving me girls 14s under Boys 16 right now, so I can't even tell if the top 3 are what they should be - Surf / B2B / MVVC, in whatever order you want; EDIT: Vaqueros at 3? Lol, nope.) Here's what I think the seeding committee's analysis was: SPVP Elite was the lowest finisher at Chicago of the bid winning teams, and didn't have a head to head against any there. The three 1s that didn't earn a bid in Chicago: 352 went 9-1 there (better ratio, too), just losing out on a bid, but was in the Championship at FF (against another bid team); Niagara was #2 at Can Am; Borinquen? 5th at BJNC as 15s, and typically a very good team in this age group. *Shrugs* It kinda sucks for both 352 and SPVB, but assuming you're good with Borrinquen getting a 1, somebody had to get the 7/8. In that both already have bids, and the "recovery" round for 3's if there's an upset (see Wave at FF), I'm not seeing it as that big of a deal for either.

Regarding the 352 and SPVB Elite in Pool 7, i think that the better pair would have been D1 and Niagara Fronteir, based on watching a few minutes and their score history. AES has them at 17 and 33 and I struggle to place them ahead of the other bid winners. Not only did they get the high seeds, but they pair with each other for an easier Day 2. What is it with teams seeing the same teams and the seeds being wrong to make it happen? Looks strange to have the 1 seed get the 352/SPVB winner and a higher 2 seed in pool 7 (both teams they have played this year) while Seed 2 getting the 2nd of pool 7 and a lower pool 5 2nd. ??

This may have been discussed somewhere else before, but I see that every court should be available to watch through “BallerTV”? It’s 40 bucks and I’ve never heard of it before. Does anyone know any more information about this? Is the quality good? Are there individual cameras for each court vs cameras that try to show multiple courts at once? Is it worth $40?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks in advance! They had it at the Chicago Boys Winter Championship. You can see a sample of what it was like at the link below. They had ipads / Tablets on tripods at each court. The reffing team was responsible for selecting "hightlight" plays, so they weren't always reliable. Heard of a few families using it and liked it as a way to watch the matches if you weren't able attend and some teams using it as a way to review / scout team's play. Overall, I'd say if you can't be there in person, it's probably worth the $40.00 . If you are there, probably not worth it. www.ballertv.com/events/winter-volleyball-championships

BallerTv was at available for HC, JBI and Chicago. They set up an iPad on a lightstand, on one side of the court, and it doesn't move throughout the game, so that's your view.
HC/JBI they were middle of the court, Chicago at the corner (on the courts we were on)
At JBI, the scoring table was hooked into the feed, not so for Chicago.
We had several parents buy the per event for Chicago - it was ok. Glitched out in one match, but you can watch replays, and we still had one parent texting out the scores so they could follow.
The per game download is ~8 to ~10, depending if you buy the per event or per season.
They had swag tables at all 3, and had discount codes (10%?) at the event.
Worth it? Totally your call, but probably so if you're following from home, but not if you're at the event.

Any big upsets or great games today at Lafata? 16 Open had 2 number one seeds lose. Pipeline 16-1 took 1st in their pool as the 3rd seed in their pool and 16 seed in the division. Beat 303 and MVC Jake Spvb 16 Alpha took 1st in their pool as the 2nd seed of their pool and 12 th in the division. Good 3 set match over 3rd seeded Niagara.

The seeds in 16 open were particularly awful this time around. 352 lost a tough 3 setter vs number 1 seed overall K2 The seeding has been off for all the big tourneys this year, and I've no clue why. 16's Bid perspective: Adversity and BORINQUEN have bids by making Gold, as the other 5 teams in Gold are already qualified for Open. SPVB Alpha does as well, assuming they want to "upgrade" from USA. Assuming Alpha upgrades, that leaves one open bid in Silver, and with one of the four teams (HP Stl) already having earned theirs.

On the other hand 352 16 gets a shot at overtaking the #1 seed and then avoids the "best" team by going to the other side of the bracket. #1 seed in 17's 352 and #3 seed Niagara 17's take a loss on the chin but recover and are in Gold. (Torrimar gets bounces on game losses- no playoff ouch) The 16's seeding isn't far off. #1 K2C2 Smack remains #1 #2 MVC Jake didn't have a good tourney and is knocked out#3 Niagara bounces back to #6 #4 Borinquen remains #4 #5 D1 Elite moves up to #3 #6 HP St Louis gets knocked out by Niagara#7 352 remains at #7 #8 SPVB Elite moves in #2 Slot #10 Adversity punches up to #8 slot #12 SPVB Alpha punches up to #5 slot6 of the 8 top seeds advance to gold. However the 17's division has ALL kinds of interesting new results and major upsets.

Finals results
16’s - Coqui over SPVB (17-25, 25-17, 25-10) 17’s - 352 over Future (23-25, 25-17, 15-12) 18’s - MVC over Future (25-27, 25-9, 15-12)
Why didn’t they use 1 set playoffs for advancement ties? I thought USAV makes them mandatory in bid tournaments.
