I get the whole deal with playing your reserves, but Hawaii got spanked from the NCAAs for losing matches last year they shouldn't have. For Wade and company, they are walking a very fine line this year. Any bad loss could warrant their exclusion if they don't win the BWC. Therefore, win every game at whatever cost. Given how good UH is this year with the senior class, I think its understandable and we can't get upset if Wade does or doesn't always play his bench. The third set of LMU shows Hawaii can be vulnerable after its first string is on the bench and the different line ups that affect chemsitry and performance on the court. Also keep in mind LMU suspended FIVE starters in the second match.

I thought they played with more scrap, want to, and spit in your eye than their first night starters. That, and Cory started playing to his potential.

I don't think Wade was concerned about the streak. He was probably more concerned about having a meaningless match get extended.....thus putting his team at risk for additional injuries.

Thank god im not only one who thinks uci is overrated and expect UH to sweep both matches We can't be over confident. I was certain we'd beat CSUN last year and we didn't even take a set off of them.

Thank god im not only one who thinks uci is overrated and expect UH to sweep both matches Never count out a hungry UCI team at home. Cause it will bite our Hawaii team in the a**. Hawaii needs to prepare and get ready for an all out battle. Not only do I think UCI is right where they should be ranking wise, I think if Hawaii doesn't play up.....our Bows could potentially go 0-2. That would be disastrous for us.

Exactly. CSUN whipped our teams a**es and I would be safe to say that those losses could have been the tipping point of UH not getting an at large last year.imo

Despite the gap in the early schedule and Charlie Wade's propensity for bonehead moves, Hawai'i is in a really good position right now. The Big West currently has at least four teams that could battle for the NCAA title, and Wade should stop experimenting now and be focused on putting the best team on the floor for each and every conference match.

Ok. UCI is on the "soft" side and well, if they want to move out of that realm for me they've got to at least take one of the two from Hawaii. UCI would have come back from a long break and that traditionally has not worked in their favor in recent years. I'm suspect of this team. I guess I'm a half-empty kind of guy because I would expect that UCI team with the returners/talent they've got to close teams out early-- which doesn't happen. Hawaii seems tougher mentally and physically stronger-- and they don't play down to the level of their opponents. They go in for the kill. I think Hawaii will only lose a set that weekend.

Do you all think it should of been a good idea that UH lost a set to LMU? Just to see if they can bounce back in the match? No, a lost set to a team like LMU would have been a bad outcome. A lost set to an MPSF or BW team is okay.

Please tell me this will have a live feed? I'm in Tokyo on the 1st, but desperately want to watch this. Agreed, this could be epic. Yes, all UCI (and I think most big west teams) home matches are streamed on bigwest.org Thanks! I can't wait. I hope it goes 5, so I get to watch as much high level ball I can.
I like Bows in 5!

Thank god im not only one who thinks uci is overrated and expect UH to sweep both matches I think they are both teams are less talented than they were in recent years, but let's face it: it's kind of a down year in the men's game. Outside of Long Beach, no current team would sniff the top five in most seasons of the last decade. Once this group of seniors graduates, there will be an even bigger drop off next season. The college game needs an influx of talent in the next few freshmen classes, like we saw three years ago. For now, though, Hawaii is the second best team in the nation this season and UCI is third best team in the nation this season. After the two teams split the weekend series, they'll stay exactly where they are now in the ranking.
