Thank god im not only one who thinks uci is overrated and expect UH to sweep both matches I think they are both teams are less talented than they were in recent years, but let's face it: it's kind of a down year in the men's game. Outside of Long Beach, no current team would sniff the top five in most seasons of the last decade. Once this group of seniors graduates, there will be an even bigger drop off next season. The college game needs an influx of talent in the next few freshmen classes, like we saw three years ago. For now, though, Hawaii is the second best team in the nation this season and UCI is third best team in the nation this season. After the two teams split the weekend series, they'll stay exactly where they are now in the ranking. I think the opposite. It's nothing like the Penn State glory days, but that 2015 high school class (Tj, Micah, Ensing, Josh, Chavers, Stijn, etc) was pretty ridiculous. This is a strong year for the Ncaa.

You sound bitter.

How’s your team though? 😉

Lol says the two posters that said stanford would split with Hawaii. At least you wisely chose they would with split with uci. Anyways I think Hawaii sweeps both matches, whether it’s sets scores, or winning both it doesn’t matter I think uci is overrated. I’ve seen them numerous times this season and I just don’t think they can hang with such a juggernaut offense that makes literally no mistakes. UCI goes 5 with UCSD which is a major red flag especially at home

Just because we're passionate about Hawaii volleyball? 😅

Does anyone else feel that this will not be epic but a letdown?
That much time to work on game plan may neutralize both offenses. The stakes of this match are high especially since UH is hosting BW Championships and will have a HUGE advantage with a AQ on the line. If UCI falls short does one expect them to beat UH at UH if it comes to it.

It already is an epic letdown! A 12 day break in the middle of the season and and a 4 page prematch thread 10 days before the match starts defines epic letdown.
What is the team doing? How does 12 days off from competition impact the team. What is the rationale here? Is this customary of the Hawaii schedule?

How does 12 days off from competition impact the team. What is the rationale here? Is this customary of the Hawaii schedule? Except for UCSD, the Big West teams are all taking about a two week break before getting into the meat of their conference schedules. UCSD sneaks another pre-conference match in w/Stanford on the 23rd.
- Irvine hasn't played since the 14th (going five at home vs. UCSD). They'll go 15 days w/o competition, before playing Hawai'i (last played on the 17th vs LMU.) - Long Beach hasn't played since the 15th (3-0 at home vs. UCLA). They'll go 14 days before playing CSUN, who goes 14 days since last playing vs. Cal Lutheran. - UCSB also hasn't played since the 15th. Their next match is vs. UCSD on 01 March.

I figured maybe it was midterms or the quarter break - letting the guys focus on their academics maybe?

Yes and neither school could find time in their schedule to play UCLA... hmmm...
