It just might be time to rethink this whole college admissions "game". SAT/ACT, AP classes, club participation/extra curricular activity padding, HS students cheating on exams, hiring college prep coaches in the 7th grade, etc.
Let's admit it, we have a national problem.

So, first, I truly believe that you can succeed in life no matter which college you attended. Second, Arizona State is a good school, regardless of what rankings and polls say. They've got resources and great facilities. Third, one of my friends from grad school went to ASU and loved it. He had no complaints other than the hot weather. He's also super smart.

It is a good school. It’s not an elite school. 80% of those who apply get in. But the degrees my husband and son got from there have served them well.

This whole situation is so troubling. Those involved definitely deserve to have heavy consequences. But before I get too high on my horse....... I have a friend that comes from a very wealthy, prominent Arizona Mormon family. There is a wing in prominent building at BYU named after my friends very wealthy mother, let’s call her Jane. Every one of this Jane’s children and grandchildren, that wanted to go BYU, have been accepted to BYU. One was also accepted to a Medical School built on land donated by the grandfather. This was the only school that accepted him. I know Jane’s kids and grandkids. Not all were the sharpest tools in the shed. I asked my friend if she would adopt my kids so they would have her last name when applying. We laugh about it, but it’s reality. I don’t believe money under the table happened, but money over the table certainly did. Was an “agreement” made that Jane’s posterity would be granted admission? Wouldn’t surprise me. And yes, it ticked me off that her son got in and mine didn’t. Neither had stellar grades or SAT scores. Yet, he got in. Did his last name have something to do with it? I have no doubt. This friend has helped me numerous times get tickets to BYU events. GOOD tickets. So, I guess I’m guilty too. Does this family deserve the perks? I’m ready to hear your thoughts. That was my thought when this first came down. Why is Loughlin and Mossimo paying $250K to get their kid into USC when they have names, money and their kid is besties with the kid of a billionaire member of the Board of Trustees? That made no sense to me. Of course parents buy their kids way into schools and their is nothing inherently illegal about it. Who steered them down this path and why did they prefer it? Thanks. For your thoughts. I moved this to Off The Net.

I am just grateful that neither Lexi Sun or Thayer Hall or their parents are involved. I've been lucky enough to have met Lexi's father and Thayer's mother; both incredibly nice people. It does not transfer to the children

Two things: My kids have tried to explain to me how people make a VERY GOOD living off YouTube and Instagram. Just by wearing a watch, or doing a make up tutorial. Boggles my mind. Kids that have grown up with a smart phone in their hand since 3rd grade now see this as a career choice. Oy vey. I hope these charges stick. The fact that Sean Miller is still coaching at Arizona makes me wonder......... One more. I’m assuming the Donna what’s-her-name made good money. How much is enough? Forget YouTube. Somebody please explain this to me: Win a golf medal, be a box of Wheaties, have a "reality" show with the Kardashians and then change your sex and your daughter can be rich too.

Because a 250k donation isn't enough money to guarantee admissions into USC. Doing it the normal way for rich people requires millions more. They were being cheap.

Olivia is “despondent”? Guarantee it has nothing to do with school and everything to do with her brand influencer gig.

Well if she didn’t have her face plastered everywhere, no one would even know who she was. I have no idea what the older daughter looks like. But, it doesn’t sound like School was really their thing (at least the younger one), so don’t let the door hit you. Hallmark has dropped their mom, Sephora dropped the social media girl. Man, this gonna cost a whole lot more than the $500,000 they initially “invested”.

Apparently, the designer husband of Loughlin is worth tens of millions so I doubt this will hurt them that hard financially.

However, and here I go with my mom hat, I feel for spoiled rotten kids who have never known otherwise. If their world as they know it is rocked like this, they often head down a horrible path. I hope they keep their stuff together in spite of their ridiculous parents.

I’m thinking that Olivia might see this as the best and most legitimate excuse to not work on that dreaded paper in English Comp 101.
