Lauren has a ton of points!! She’s actually gonna mess up a few teams! Does she? Laura Ludwig came back from pregnancy and is going to be in qualifiers in the next event. Talita is in CQ. Lauren is hoping for a wildcard to Vienna and the article basically implies she’ll get it. What makes her think that she would get the wildcard? I know she’s a past Olympian but....Whatever

Lauren is talking a month after giving birth she’ll be back. Can’t believe a Dr. would clear that. 🤷🏻♀️ Also Kerri is the GOAT and could come back at 75% and still compete, Lauren at 100% is a loss in the first round of CQs right now

None of the new German partnerships working out so far. Chantal has been losing to inferior teams, Julia has had one decent event and a few lousy ones and LLudwig's team has been awful. If this keeps up how long until we see either Chantal or Laura with Julia?

The article sounded sorry that she couldn’t make it to Hamburg but if she’s ready for Vienna, they’ll award one to her.

Chantal and Julia were far more successful than any of the current German teams, but there seemed to be some hard feelings with that breakup so it would be surprising to see them get back together so soon. Laura with Julia might be better if she’s not holding out for Kira’s return.

Both women jump well enough that I doubt blocking would be a huge issue - certainly not a strength but not a Japan level weakness either. Old School Florida style team

Kerri playing lefty was better than Lauren on her best day They got a 5th without beating anyone and a 9th where they did, but I think Sponcil now, and I am impressed with her and her potential, is a little like that Day/Ross run where they had a few incredible results then got figured out and started losing most of their matches. That said if Sarah/Kelly keep winning the lottery with their playoff draws, they may end up in Tokyo. That good luck continues this week. Here are three potential playoff paths to the semis for teams who came 3rd in their pool Rt. 1 - Czech monsters, Boger/Sude, Ana/Rebecca Rt. 2 - Barabara/Fernanda, Antonelli/Salgado, Duda/Agatha Kelly/Sarah's draw - Day/Flint, Spain, KW/BS Best draw in the event as far as I can tell.

Kerri playing lefty was better than Lauren on her best day IDK, maybe my perceptions are unfounded b/c they differ significantly. First, I watched AVP a lot from late 80's up through 2010, then the past couple of years. When trying to understand upside, I look for shotmaking skill, and attitude. I've had a chance to look on Amazon Prime, and also the FIVB youtube channel, to look (I'm a UCLA fan) at Sponcil's partners the past year. Ledoux I would rate barely average, Claes I would rate above average -- neither elite. I would rate Fendrick as just one level below elite, but much better than Claes or Ledoux. I mean there's a reason Kerri gave it a test drive. I guess I'm saying Kerri (right handed)>Summer>Fendrick>Claes>Ledoux. Sponcil got 2nd with Fendrick and Claes, so maybe their equivalent. But you seem to rate Fendrick at Ledoux level, which I don't get. But we agree on one thing... Kerri left handed is better than any big we have except Summer.

We differ a little on Lauren but I agree entirely on the others mentioned. I would add dynamic physicality/size to the potential equation. In today's game you can make do with only one of those (Summer has size, Brandie is physically dynamic) but without either its really tough to compete at the highest level

Also,
As far as partners for Sponcil, I'm concerned about the long term with Claes. Every time I watch Claes, her partners carry her -- Hughes, Hochever, Wilkerson at Huntington, and now Sponcil. The reality is we as a country we are pretty short on bigs right now. Sponcil can make a sort of living and get better with Claes, but won't scare anybody in World Championships or Olympics. Maybe by the time April retires and assuming Alix want to continue playing beyond her Olympic dream, Klineman/Sponcil could be elite.

Drawing of pools will occur on June 4th. I’ll start men’s and women’s thread after that.
