Is there anything more predictable than Canada making a play with the potential to turn a game and MHP missing her next serve by 10 feet. Shoot their coach. Also stop digging in on Alix she didnt swing at a ball the whole game. Going 3, this is nerve wracking MHP can make some amazing plays and then have some really ugly errors.

These two teams are definitely at the top right now. Should be a fun summer as everyone gets more and more match time together.

Third game, same thing. Canada up 4-1, MHP gets a dig, easy chance and she puts it out of bounds. I think she hit maybe 6 balls out the final set including serves and all missed by a lot except one cut shot. I think one of the reasons its hard to get a handle on is MHP really fits the profile of a smart player. Undersized, scrappy, VB family/coaches kid I think, but she doesn't actually play smart.
Alix/April played smart, didnt make errors, and got a couple breaks, Canada collapsed mentally and its 2-0 to the A Team.

MY GIRLS! GOLD IN ITAPEMA!
It was not an easy week for them! This is their 4th three-setter. They went 6-1 in matches. Let's go ATeam!

Being an MHP/Pavan fan is so frustrating. Having a swing to go up 5-1 and total collapse. Those let serve aces also were just annoying 🤦🏻‍♂️

Mel really struggled to pass the ball cleanly at the end but this fits with your schizophrenia post. Ahead 4-1 they should have cruised to victory. Instead they completely fell apart and lost 14 of the next 20 points. But congrats to April and Alix. Their serving definitely put on the pressure and fewer errors made the difference.

With a win here, I would say The ATeam should be considered the best team in the world and heavy favorites for the World Champs next month. There are other teams close to them but, they are just a bit better when it’s all on the line. Best team perhaps, but heavy favorites? No way. Too many other good teams. And what you may view as “clutch” play in three setters I’d say is some good luck.

Ive been really impressed with Alix in the parts of three matches I saw this weekend. She is moving much more smoothly, I like how she is setting April, and she has eliminated a lot of the mistakes she used to make. Still needs to learn to block, but she's a top 10 frontcourt player in the world for me now and maybe top 5.

They are but thats improving too. Their last 5, including the one AVP, is a much better stretch than anything they did last year. 3 wins, and going out late to good teams (Ana/Rebecca and Australia) is pretty good. Also most of the other top contenders are flawed even when playing well. Both Canadian defenders and Mariafe give up a lot of points, as does Rebecca. Duda/Agatha really struggle to score and Barbara/Fernanda seem like a partnership in trouble. The Czechs I guess are a little different but other than them, April/Alix seem to have the fewest weaknesses as well as the most fixable weaknesses of the top teams.

I think Pavan needs to be hitting harder too. She is 6'5" for crying out loud. There were a lot of roll shots from Pavan that April picked up to keep the rallies going.

She doesn’t block as well as she should and I still think her setting can be a bit shaky, but her ball control is much better and just looks more comfortable on the sand. April really took a huge risk on her, considering two years ago she couldn’t get out of an AVP qualifier. She has improved greatly and is holding her own with the best in the world.

True and she has very poor range for someone her size.
