If I had time to be here yesterday, I would have said regarding Baylor-Texas that while Baylor has been getting all the fan fare and love, Texas has quietly been playing really well since dropping a set to that short-handed Iowa State team. The young hitters are coming into their own and will continue to get better. Baylor relies a lot on Pressley, and if you can slow down how quickly she gets her six kills a set (she is getting her six kills a set, stopping that is probably not an option), you will give yourself a chance. Not the end for Baylor, they will get Texas in Waco to potentially share the Big 12 (I struggle to find where either could slip up beyond against each other), they will still likely be a top-4 seed and have a good chance to make a deep run. A team with a really big block could cause Baylor some problems, but it is still too early to think about who could get sent where for 1st/2nd rounds. Kansas and K-State look to be headed in the right direction based off of last night's result, though that will not help them/matter in 2019. It has to hurt if you are KU not being able to close out a 2-0 lead. Iowa State could struggle against K-State on Saturday, especially if KSU are rolling with a 6-2, that is a lot of size for a not very good ISU defense to compete against. One thing Texas eliminated last night was the WTF set such as the one they lost to Iowa State. Even in our prior match against WVU, we trailed a lot of the third set and won either 25-23 or 25-22. Serving appears to be steadily improving and blocking is getting much better as Butler worked back into the lineup.

POY: Pressley (duh) FOY: Fields SOY: Lockin LOY: Kinley COY: Mcguire I'd say that's solid. Lockin has been solid a majority of the season and sadly had a real off night yesterday, if Texas were to beat Baylor again this season, does anyone think Gabriel has a shot for SOY?

So it depends who wins the conference.

Gabriel certainly has a shot and should be in the discussion. I think if TX wins round 2 the. She should take it.

POY: Pressley (duh) FOY: Fields SOY: Lockin LOY: Kinley COY: McGuyre I don’t think you’re wrong, but I do think precedent would have POY come from the school that wins the conference. If Texas beats Baylor in Waco (big if, regardless of last night’s results), then I think White is POY. Pressley has another year to compete for it next season (against a healthy Brionne, I’m guessing).

Rarely has Texas ever had their setter honored as first team All-Big 12, let alone setter of the year; maybe just Chloe Collins one season. Maybe it's justified. But, we all know that Texas is pretty much going to have 2-3 hitters on the All-Conference Team each season (maybe no MB this season). So, could be that the other coaches are trying to "spread the love" and setter is where Texas gets overlooked. Again, each season is different; and, there are always good setters in the mix; but, I recall some years where Texas' setter had the better stats, but it wasn't recognized. Maybe that's one position where meeting the eye test is a big factor.

Big if as in Baylor is still a proven very good team that’ll be playing with a huge chip on their shoulder. I’m a big Texas fan, but I don’t think the match in Waco is going to be the hammering that last night’s match was. That’s all I meant by that

They are a good team and we will need to play a good game to win.
Don't put much stock in the playing with a huge chip on their shoulder angle. We beat them twice last year decisively. Why weren't they playing with a huge chip on their shoulder last night?
When you look at last night plus the last three games, Baylor has won one set out of ten and scored 20+ points in only three (two of those are in the opening set of the match including the one that they won). Pressley had her best statistical game of the three last night. In last year's games, she hit -.128 and .051 with 11 kills in each match. That seems to demonstrate that they need to make more significant adjustments than just "playing with a chip on their shoulder".
