I went to the match and was very surprised by a few things. In the first 2 matches, Brandt was playing setter and was doing a great job. Hatch was great! I really hope she will be big for us on the outside for the next 4 years. Blocking was a little off to begin with but picked up after the first set. Not many blocks, but great funneling and getting tips to slow it down. Another new face that I like was Michal Schuler. Monster server (a la Caitlyn Mahoney). She will be a fun one to watch too. Rhodes is still getting back into a groove but Holthaus and Cande were a touch better than last year. This wasn’t discussed on the SEC thread, so how did Mizzou look? This was ISU and Creighton. I didn't watch Mizzou.

Mizzou looked really good in sets 2 and 3. They were putting the ball down. Serve receive allowed K-State back in sets 4 and 5. I think #2 got aced a few times. Really impressed with Deberg, I didn't watch Mizzou last year so not real familiar with the players.

And who was the middle that wasn’t number 9 Omazic and how did she do? Promise no more questions on the B12 thread about Mizzou after these haha.

Maybe a tad surprising that Iowa State took the first three sets against Creighton in an exhibition game on Friday. I wasn't able to attend and there was no live video or stats. Curious if any fan was able to go?! I went to the match and was very surprised by a few things. In the first 2 matches, Brandt was playing setter and was doing a great job. Hatch was great! Rhodes is still getting back into a groove but Holthaus and Cande were a touch better than last year. It can't be emphasized enough that Annie Hatch is the key to ISU in 2019. Surprised Brandt started, must mean she is setting the middles better. CJL likes athletic setters and if Brandt can make the basic sets (she could set the slide to the middles, but not the quick last year), that would fit the profile better than Mauck. It is especially important this year with the depth issues on the pins to begin the year.

Texas Tech (17-13, 6-10) Pablo #59Nonconference: #37 Rice was the biggest win in an 11-3 nonconference schedule. Losses to Georgia, UCSB, and Long Beach State – LBSU being the worst loss where they lost 13-15 in the 5th set. Conference: Texas Tech started off 4-0 with wins over Baylor, Iowa State, and Kansas State. They then proceeded to lose 5 straight and 10 of their final 12 matches. Players Lost: (2 starters) Katy Keenan, Missy Owens, Kyndal Cowan Additions: Cadi Boyer, Caitlin Dugan, Lauren Dodson, Kylie Trefflich, Audrey Tuttle Black Ink: 10.5 A surprising good season from Tech last year where leading scorer Emily Hill (OH) and sophomore Brooke Kanas return. Also returning will be OH Chandler Atwood, MB Allison White, and L Emerson Solano. Replacing setter Missy Owens will be vital with sophomores Alex Kirby and Audrey Smith being the options. Freshman Boyer could be the MB replacement for Keenan. Outlook: 2018 conference season was wildly inconsistent like most of the Big 12 teams. It becomes difficult to tell who was playing well (or bad) and who was playing teams at the right time. The main issue is going to be setter – Hill and Kanas provide enough offensive stability. Tech also added transfer setter Tatum Rohme from ASU. She'll be competitive. Caitlin Dugan is a stud hitter. She will contribute as well. [edit -- corrected an error about Dugan having an injury. As far as I know, she's healthy. I confused her with one of her club teammates.] Told you that Dugan and Rohme were going to be nice additions for Tech.

Hard to tell for sure the depth chart - my guess? S: Looks like Alex Kirby is the favorite to start over Rohme based on getting many more assists. But I can see this not being settled. OH: Obviously Hill - with the 2nd spot being between Dugan, Allison, and Atwood. Atwood was the starter last year, but it would appear that this spot is very much open with FR Dugan and Allison who was redshirted last year. MB: White is the returning starter and I have to think she will continue to start with the 2nd spot between Freshman Boyer and Sophomore Jones. I would bet it will end up being White and Boyer... L: Solano started last year and I bet she starts again. Freshman Dodson and Rittimann being DS's.

Baylor just downed UCLA in three. Pressley had 19 kills. Lockin was also very offensive. Gia Milana player horrible, but Baylor still hit .278 for the match. Texas better watch out for BU because the Bears are on the rise.

Kind of chaotic loss for ISU to UCF in five at Ole Miss. Brandt started at setter but got pulled for Mauck after a disastrous first set. Herrera needs to be getting more than 13 swings. Hatch hit into too many blocks, but at times showed what she could do. UCF is a good team, not the end of the world for the Cyclones by any means.
Will be interesting to see if ISU can settle a little more on a lineup vs. Ole Miss tomorrow. Lots of tinkering, has to be tough on players trying to get in groove with new players around them at all times.

Tech beats Ohio State in 5 without Kanas. Not sure if she’s hurt or not. Played in the first match. Karrington Jones was big in the middle.

TCU sweeps High Point but did so without McCall. Hope she isn't injured again, although the freshmen stepped up nicely in her absence
