Looks like Drussyla is out as well. Who will be left at this rate. Brazil has players who are injured, retiring, taking time off, and or refused to join. I wouldn't be surprised if we hear more players opting out in the coming days/weeks. Something smells fishy and it ain't the expired sardines in my pantry. webvolei.com.br/2019/04/problema-fisico-tira-drussyla-da-selecao/ I’m sure someone will spill the tea about it soon enough. My Portuguese is a little rusty. Can you translate and tell me what’s going on?

It says that Drussyla will not be with the national team because of "medical issues. She has a stress fracture in her right leg tibia. So far these are the players who will not be playing this summer, Adenizia, Thaisa, Dani Lins, Camila Brait, Tassia, and Gabi Candido.

Brazilian players, including Thaisa, have been critical of Ze Roberto's coaching before. So long as the team was winning, these criticism could be contained and and be limited by the powers that be. But now that the team is having an issue with the transition to new players, some of them may be increasingly outspoken in their dissatisfaction.
Whatever one thinks of Ze Roberto though, I don't think he needs to prove himself anymore at this stage in his career, his record of coaching three teams to the Olympic Gold (1992 with the Brazilian men and 2008 and 2012 with the women) speaks for itself. He is no doubt one of the great coaches in volleyball and likely a future volleyball hall of famer. Which means there will be no problem If he steps down now...or continue coaching.

She's taking a break from volleyball in order to spend time with her family. Her mom has a medical problem and needs to undergo surgery.

She couldn’t get a decent set from Carlini last season. She not been the same since.

Is the situation unsettled enough to give the Dominican a decent chance to beat them this summer in the Olympic qualifying?

Is the situation unsettled enough to give the Dominican a decent chance to beat them this summer in the Olympic qualifying? I don’t think it should affect them too much. The loss of Fé Garay is what will hurt them the most. Their depth at OH is reduced to Gabí, Natália, Amanda, and Rosamaria. The latter two didn’t have very good club seasons. Monique’s twin sister Michelle has been added as another OH in the National Team depth chart. At setter, the loss of Dani Lins won’t mean too much. Macris and Fabíola had fabulous seasons: Roberta, not so much. The starting middles, in my opinion should be the two Carols. (Silva and Gattaz). Gattaz has had a re-emergence in the sport. Opposite is where Brazil is going to shine. You have two heavy-ball hitters in Tandara and Bruna. Suellen should be in the backcourt. Overall, Brazil should still be a top five team.

Macris, Natalia, Tandara, Gattaz, Suelen are all over 30, and other Carol is close too. Has to be concerning for Brazil that the "refreshed" starting lineup isn't getting any younger, and it's no sure thing that team can do better than the 6th from last WC.

I think a part of it has to do with his sometimes controversial roster selections for the OG. Replacing Fabiola with Fenandinha in 2012 and Camila Brait with Leia for 2016 were criminal in my opinion. Two players who had continually proven their worth the years before, only to get snitched at the very last moment for relative newcomers. Gotta hurt, which is I think why C.Brait is refusing to rejoin the team.

He probably felt he needed to do what is best for the team in terms of increasing the chance of winning gold at the Olympics. But the aftermath is bad blood between players and coach.

Agree, but it hurts especially when when you think about how the veterans could have impacted their team’s outcome in the tournament. 2012 Brazil won the whole thing, so won’t say much about Fernanda, but I still think about how Brazil would have finished in 2016 if Brait was their libero. Not saying Leia (her replacement) played poorly, but surely the vast amount of match experience Brait had would have made a difference. Same could be said for Heather Bown in 2012, that one stung a lot more because Bown was such a rock solid player for the US for at least a decade prior.
