The exciting part of these results is how deep the pool of USA players is. About half this team wouldn't have been candidates in my mind for 2020. Now I'm wondering if 1-2 of them might displace a veteran, this summer even.

Chiaka is definitely cementing her case. Drews too
Honestly all three of Ogbogu, Rettke and Washington should play in the finals. For the 4th I would have to choose Dixon. She played well in last years final.
Drews should also be a lock.
I definitely want to see more of Poulter. I also wouldn’t mind seeing Carlini, Lowe and Cuttino.
Thompson will only get better with time. Her ceiling is stupid high.
Hancock is just a bit too streaky for me. When she’s on she’s lights out. But some of her play here today reminded me of the 3rd round of the WCH last year when we were two sets up on the Dutch. She just fell apart and was subbed out.
Lake’s passing numbers were limited but impressive. I really love Courtney on defense....but I think Lake could be great if given a chance.
Lee sure took a minute to get going but when she got hot she was just the spark that the team needed. Also no one can blame her for not being lights out right away when she has literally seen zero court time so far in the tournament. I hope she and Parsons start tomorrow.
Really proud of these ladies. I definitely think the outcome would have been different if Egonu were playing but other than her Italy was at pretty much full tilt and we managed to pull out a hard fought victory and are still undefeated!
After watching this is there any reason to bring in Foluke or Hill or any of the other starters? Larson and Krob for sure in Nebraska just to make the home town fans happy. Week 5 in China is the last big challenge and that is followed right up with the finals. I'm sure Karch would like to get that 1 million again and any win helps his cause as he certainly would like another quad to try and win gold.

I think this is a fair statement and I definitely chalked up her start to nerves. It's just a less palatable feeling right now when her teammates in similar situations have excelled. Thompson subs in mid-match last week and makes an immediate and undeniable impact, and Foecke gets thrown in with zero experience and is really steady.

I agree. She definitely was more shaky than I thought she would be. I do hope we see more of her though.
I do feel like she is firmly the lowest on the OH depth chart at the moment.
I would rank them in this order:
Larson, Hill, Robinson, Bartsch, Foecke, Parsons, Kingdon and Lee.
I think Lee has more offensive power/potential than Kingdon, Parsons and even Robinson. But she won’t make it if she can’t learn to pass. And I hear she is going to Japan to play next pro season.....this could potentially put a nail in her coffin with the NT. I’m hoping she really masters that skill set while playing in one of the best defensive leagues in the world. Time will tell!

Try this order...
MBH, Larson, Hill, Foecke/Robinson, Parsons, Kingdon, Lee
While Lee's passing was shaky today, I thought she got a lot more digs than W-P usually does. Maybe even more balls than Kingdon usually picks up. I don't know if dig stats exist anywhere. I'd be curious to see that.
Good win. So, what is your overall assessment of US performance so far in the VNL?
We have a long way to go to bEat Italy/Serbia or China. This happens every tournament. Until we get to the final round and beat these teams all full strength it’s hard to see where the US is.
It’s funny how we don’t understand the impact Egonu would have made if she played.

Oh I understand how Egnou will impact Italy. I am just assessing progress of the US so far.

I wouldn't put Foecke and Robinson on the same level just based off of experience and ball control yet. Foecke has the potential to be one of our top outsides in the years to come but I don't think shes ready at the moment. Also Lee was literally thrown out there against the toughest team that the US has played so far so I don't want to judge just yet.
