I would like to drop the Mountain West, or MVC... or both. And if you kept the Top 50 RPI teams in - Colorado State and Northern Iowa would still make be eligible! But how can we not have Mariena Hayden in the league ?!?

Re: subs -- recall that a player could only be subbed in if a player who played in her previous match did not play in her next match. If you were paying attention to your opponent, you'd know if a substitution was an option. Oh, also: player positions should NOT be based on the position they played in the last five matches of the previous season. That was dumb. Encouraged finding loopholes. Athletes should be on rosters in the position that they actually play, IMO. I like the other ideas. Regardless, all rules should work to enhance the overall participant experience and to maximize engagement for as many participants for as long as possible. One of the reasons we liked the emergency add/drop rule was because, in theory, it helps eliminate something that would otherwise ruin a fantasy season (a player getting injured) which might yield someone to give up. I believe that should be the goal. That's true. And that sub rule definitely helped me last season. It also can only happen if roster minimums are still met, so that also helps. How would you write out how to define player positions? I like the idea of emergency add/drop but I think it should be slightly more open. So like everyone gets a 4th drop if they have a player who doesn't play in back-to-back weeks for injury or any other reason. The substitution rule already helps if you have one player who sits out in one single week, and the three add/drops give people plenty time to save them instead of risking them on one early because a player isn't performing as expected.

I’d highly recommend that any fantasy league scoring for 2020 be per set rather than per match or totals. The discrepancy in schedules will be exhausting.

I’ve got bad news! Part of this delay has been due to me still trying to determine if I’ll be available enough in the fall to handle being an Admin for this. I just started a new job and have committed to a few other things for the fall semester and I just won’t have the time to commit to helping run this league. Sorry guys, I wish I could do it all!

A few questions folks:
In light of Agean’s post, is anyone else interested in administrative duties?
With the announcement of conference only schedules, what are people thinking? Does it make the prospect of a league too “boring”
If we do try to do the league, would be cap to 10 participants to allow for a full round robin with conference only schedules?
Is it all too depressing and no one wants to play anymore, lol?

But, my gut is telling me, this isn't going to happen. The draft for me is probably the most exciting part of the League, so it would be fun to have it even if the season gets cancelled subsequently! LOL.

So you have two divisions of 7 teams (6 weeks of regular season play round robin within the division), and then top 4 teams from each division play the final 3 weeks in a single-elimination tournament (if I'm doing my math right here). More participants, less weeks to participate in for the majority of posters, so it's a trade-off. The 10-team full round robin is probably better, although it might be fun to try something different.

Here's a suggestion for a fantasy league if there's no volleyball this fall. You can dismiss entirely if it's unworkable or unattractive.
1. Fantasy league will be based on rosters, stats, and schedules from 2019 season.
2. Everyone drafts anew but you can't draft players that were drafted in 2019. So, brand new players.
3. One administrator who does NOT have a stake in the league (i.e., he does not have a team) will, week after week, RANDOMLY select the 2019 matches from which the stats will be used for the fantasy league's wins-losses. The picked 2019 matches will not be announced in advance. It will be picked after all teams submit weekly starting rosters and everyone is ready.
Example, let's say in the first week, it's Team A vs. Team B, among other match-ups for the other teams in the league. Team A has on his current roster Amy (Dayton), Alice (Nebraska), and Annette (Missouri), while Team B has Betty (Wisconsin), Bonnie (UCLA), and Billie (Oregon). There are more players, of course, but I just wanted to simplify this example. (And I don't want to type 12-16 names.) The administrator will randomly select 2019 matches for Dayton, Nebraska, Missouri, Wisconsin, UCLA, and Oregon, some from week 3 and some from week 7 and others from week 1. The stats for the relevant players will then be used to determine the outcome for Team A vs. Team B. Lather rinse repeat for all other league match-ups.
In subsequent weeks, the same thing happens except that the administrator cannot pick 2019 matches he has already picked before. So, any given 2019 match can only be used ONCE. To use a real life example, if the administrator picks the 2019 week 1 match Hawaii vs. San Diego, he cannot pick that same match Hawaii vs. San Diego for subsequent weeks.
The administrator will truly pick randomly because with no stake in the league or the teams, why the heck would he care who wins and loses.

One administrator who does NOT have a stake in the league Congratulations for volunteering! I'll gladly do it. It's just a random number function. It's easy to create an auto-update spreadsheet to randomly select matches. But I'm not sure the league participants will like my idea.

Amy, Alice and Annette vs. Betty, Billie, and Bonnie??

Hey Folks: Haven’t said much (sorry or heard much for a while on this. Are we assuming it’s likely a no-go?

Hey Folks: Haven’t said much (sorry or heard much for a while on this. Are we assuming it’s likely a no-go? I think it could still happen if teams actually play, obviously. I think that's the bigger issue. With per-match totals, as long as teams have 1 match a week, it's do-able. The amount of players in the league would have to be closer to 10 instead of 14. You could also play two opponents in one week, being allowed to submit different rosters against them. I don't see how that's a bad thing. It could be scheduled in, or used in case an entire week is cancelled for whatever reason. I think the rosters would have to be bigger, and active starters each week less. Like, only play the 7-roster minimum (3OH, 1L, 1S, 2MB) and have 2 back-ups for each position to make rosters 15-16. n00b vballfreak808 also ran leagues.. what other alternatives could you see?

My initial thought for something completely different: a weekly survivor rotisserie league. Instead of having a roster to yourself, each week you select a lineup from the entire player pool. And instead of head-to-head matchups, everybody is scored rotisserie-style in our 5 typical stat categories (K, A, D, B, SA). If you're unfamiliar with a rotisserie league works, you take each stat order from best to worst. Then you get more points for finishing higher in the rankings. So in a 16-team league, the owner with the most total Kills for that week gets 16 points, second gets 15 points, third gets 14, ... , lowest gets 1 point. And you do that for all five categories. The only catch is that each owner can only pick a particular player once for the duration of the season. So everybody will have the chance to start Yossiana Pressley, but only for one week. Pros: - By picking new players each week, it will mitigate the extreme differences in conference schedules. ACC teams might only have 10 matches, but in the weeks that they DO play, Paulina Shemanova will play a big role in the league. The Big Ten or Pac-12 might build in a bye week for potentially cancelled matches. Going weekly increases flexibility. - No max on the size of the league. Players can and will be on multiple rosters on a given week so this format works whether we have 8 participants or 24. - New lineups each week means that injuries and/or COVID absences can be fixed pretty quickly and easily. Cons: - No draft and the draft is always fun - You MUST submit a lineup each week. In the previous format the roster from last week would just roll over. If we're only allowing each athlete to appear in your lineup once for the season, a new lineup has to be submitted each week.
