Can he afford another year of barely break even earnings?
Does he have another way to make a living that he can transition into? He's not exactly making a lot of money. There are only 4 guys making a living that allows them to live without roommates in SoCal, in a safe neighborhood within 30 minute drive of practice. And two of those guys live in Florida! the point is, only 4 guys are making the kind of living that would allow them to save for retirement, so continuing to play sure isn't for the money.
Hyden lives in TN, so housing is less, but airfare is way more than if he lived in Socal. Last year he made $42,500 combined prize money. At least $8,000 expenses, probably more like $10,000. Let's say he actually "made" $34,000. Can he live on that? 1st year school teachers in LA, b/c of cost of living, make $55,000 + $5,000 benefits package value, for 9.5 months work. This year Hyden's made $15,300 - expenses, and the year is almost out. That's barely better than break even. Even in TN you can't live on $5,000 earnings after expenses. A 46 yr. old man can't even buy PPO medical Insurance with a $2,500 deductible for $5,000

^ true, but I continued the post to explain he can't afford TN on this year's prize money - expenses. He would have to choose between rice and beans, and medical coverage. Maybe 73% hamburger in 3lb. tubes.

He’s runs owes a beach clinic in Tennessee. I’m sure he had a few sponsors and maybe at this point he just loves competing and he’s still good enough to be a mid main draw player and if he’s feeling it he can beat most teams still

Getting a group of 8-10 to move to a cheap beach somewhere else together seems like a simple way to make and save much more money plus easier flights to Europe etc (China events would be a bear though)
