So, if the US is bringing Michael Saeta, I assume there will be other surprises. Would they send a roster that looks a little like this? And let some of the 9 Olympians sit this one out?
S: Saeta, Ma’a MB: Jendryk, Stahl, ? Opp: Patch, Shaw OH: DeFalco, Sander, Wieczorek, ? L: Watten, Dagostino
I’m guessing it will be a mix. From what I understand, they leave for Japan on Sunday, so more insight at that time maybe!

I have heard a little bit. I know they are taking about 17 people. With the CEV Championships just ending, the teams have until 24 hours before each match to name their 14 players. That was probably why the listing on the FIVB website said the teams were named not the preliminary rosters.
I know of the 17 going, Christenson, Ma’a, Tuaniga, and Saeta will be in Japan. I have a hunch that if Saeta is on a gameday roster, he will primarily be used as a serving substitute.

I had assumed that maybe Christenson was staying behind. No Kawika Shoji???

I have a hunch that if Saeta is on a gameday roster, he will primarily be used as a serving substitute. And you are correct! He is only a serving substitute due to concussions as he confirmed on his Instagram.

Roster will probably be released closer to October 1st.
Ones that appear to be there for sure from social media are TJ DeFalco, Micha Ma’a, James Shaw, David Smith, Erik Shoji, Michael Saeta.

Russell (or their significant others...can’t remember) mentioned on Instagram about Saturday being their last day in California, so guessing both are there as well. No surprise. Looking like A squad is there with a few additions.

Holy sh*t. I haven't been following that tournament but Russia had to have been favorites for the title. CRAZY! I'm really glad Slovenia will be in the VNL next year. I don't see them getting relegated. Next years VNL should be a blood bath with the OG around the corner.

Tuaniga is going? Where’s the clue?
So far the ‘only’ surprises are Michael Saeta and James Shaw, add them to the regular 14:
Christenson, Ma’a Anderson, Patch A Russell, Jaeschke, Muagututia, DeFalco Holt, Smith, Jendryk, Stahl E Shoji, Dagostino
If they are bringing additional players, I stick to my assumption that B Sander will go as well.
Saeta replies to me in DM that he is a serving substitute for sure. Don’t know what Shaw can bring, this marks his first A team travel roster, an extended one tho.

The team travelled on a 4 hour bus ride and are doing a training camp almost at the base of Mount Fuji, which makes that trip more than worth it.
They may send some guys home after this week.

Today I went to watch USA training session opened to fans in Mishima, Japan.
The roster: Christenson, Ma'a, Tuaniga, Saeta Anderson, Patch, Shaw Russell, Jaeschke, Muagututia, DeFalco, B. Sander Smith, Holt, Jendryk, Stahl E. Shoji
But Christenson hardly trained and Speraw said Christenson hurt his back..

We might be seeing a lot of Ma’a in the World Cup if they’re cautious with Micah C. Roster is not a surprise at all...except no Kawika Shoji. Hmmmm. Oh, and also thought we might see Dagostino in Japan.
