I was going to go through some of the tourney results to see who “left the scene” or who was most affected by the bankruptcy of the AVP in 2010, but thought I’d pose it here. What careers received an unfortunate end/demise due to the AVP demise?

Seems like a lot of mid-level players who were well in to their careers must have hung it up. Though I'm having trouble coming up with names.
OK, here's one: Ashley Ivy. She was getting 5ths on the AVP in 2009 & 2010. Probably still had a few years left in her. But only played one NORCECA and one NVL after 2010.
Oh, talking Stanford alums, there's Sara Dukes Johnson. She retired from playing after 2010 and was later a volunteer assistant at Stanford for a couple of years. (Got talked into playing AVP San Francisco in 2016 by Karissa Cook.) Of course, her best AVP finishes were 9ths, so not that big of an impact.

Watchfogel is the one that comes to mind. He was on a steep upward trajectory when the crash came. Such a potent offensive player for a defender his size. Loved his game.

Pretty much every one of those guys were either done and/or transitioning out of the sport by 2010.

GLRA: Where was Nygard at this point (out or on way or did he get caught)?

GLRA: Where was Nygard at this point (out or on way or did he get caught)? Jeff? He was in his late 30’s and working on becoming a full time indoor coach at the time, which worked out for him - so far, at any rate. The AVP was a side job for him in 2010.

Didnt Hyden go into that weird sort of domestic only thing he did for a few years at that point? Wasted some very good years.
2009 was Ring's last year but did the tour collapse have any effect on that?
Did Loomis sort of become a weekend warrior around then?

Anthony Medel, Hans Stolfus, Wachtfogel... to name a few As I recall, Stolfus had suffered a serious neck injury a couple years earlier. His playing career was already mostly over by 2010. I believe he worked on the administrative side of the AVP for awhile before Donald Sun bought it.

Someone was saying was Loomis was out of the loop he became pretty chunky which is hard to imagine. I would have loved to see a picture of that if it were true. Dude is bone thin.

This would be a GREAT SandCast for Travis and Tri. I don't think we have a firm grip on how players felt at the time. I remember Geeter saying he didn't know what he was going to do next on NetLive edition and it was sad (though he did very, VERY well)....Anyway, love the insights here...

If you haven't listened to them they're quite compelling history

If you haven't listened to them they're quite compelling history I listened to their podcasts with AJ, OB and - I think - Hov? Was not impressed at all. Ill look up Paper Courts though and see if it may have been a false impression
