Wasn't Lang Ping's nickname the Iron Hammer? They could trick people into thinking there's a Thor spinoff. Hehehe, now that's a fun idea! But I don't think they can trick Chinese audience since Lang Ping is so famous there, haha. I am told there is gossip in the Chinese press that Chen Zhonghe, the head coach that led China to gold at Athens in 2004, is unhappy with his portrayal as a sort of clownish character. The press report claims Chen demanded his scenes be cut but the director refused. Although given it is China, the propaganda department can step in and make changes whether the director or studio likes it or not. That would not bode well for this movie. We'll see what happens.

Visually, that’s a really cool poster, title is weird. Haha! I can’t wait for this. I can't say for the movie, it could be a great success or a total disaster, a lot depends on whether the propaganda people will allow the director to do his job or force him to make the movie characters recite lines like "Glory to Mao Zedong" or some other jingoistic nonsense. That would ruin the movie right there. But at least the volleyball scenes look promising. And the poster does provide a little more info, the running time is 135 minutes.

Running time is pretty much on par to make a decent movie especially when they are basically covering Lang Ping’s whole life. Personally, I hope the comedic elements are subtle as it has the potential to make a mess out of this film.

This final trailer features Yuan Weimin, the coach who led China to their first gold at Los Angeles in 1984. He is a sort of old school hardcore Bobby Knight authoritarian style of coach. That being said, he delivered results and was made a member of the Volleyball Hall of Fame (https://www.volleyhall.org/yuan-weimin). They even composed a song for the movie, what is this, a Disney movie with songs?! The song is kind of "meh" for me, but whatever, at least the MV feature more scenes from the movie:

All I have to say is... more of that first clip and a lot less of that second clip. It’s tricky having to ask these players to act and I’m not sure they could pull it off.
The first video was like a straight-up biopic, the second I don’t even know what that is. Lol

One has that Hollywood trailer vibe. The other gave me a fanmade amv/movie tribute vibe.

It is an official video, not a fan-made video, but I guess music tastes are different for different people.

One has that Hollywood trailer vibe. The other gave me a fanmade amv/movie tribute vibe. Music video not so important in the end, of course the movie quality itself is important. Does it work to entertain the audience and more importantly in this case, can it get across a cultural divide so that non-Chinese audience can also appreciate it. That is possible in this case, since volleyball is a shared sport not defined by one particular language or culture.

Depending on any last minute edits (not uncanny valley Sonic the Hedgehog level, but stuff happens) there could be different tones at every arc. The newest trailer seems more serious/epic/action oriented. The one with Zhehong was more lighthearted/comedic. The later years seem more like a biopic/drama. Maybe it all meshes. Hopefully these tones don't try to do "too much".

If it does I might have a little more confidence in it.

Hey does anyone live near one of the cinema showing the movie (listing in the post above)? At least within reasonable distance (i.e. not 100 miles away) to make it worth your while to watch it?
