really depends on the bracket and draw...if a team like RICE gets a 15 or 16 seed, and they draw their bracket but face a non-seeded UCF or Texas St for their first match, I would have them favored in both...leading them to a 3rd game. I think 4th game would require a miracle game but it isn't unheard of. Here's what you apparently don't understand. As long as the projected seeds hold, South Dakota will be sent to one of three places - Minnesota, Nebraska or Creighton. It's hard to imagine a scenario where all three of those teams end up unseeded. South Dakota might have a chance against Creighton in a 2nd round match, but I wouldn't be too confident of their odds of beating any of those three teams on the road. I thought they got rid of travel distance limitations....after all unseeded Hawaii faced unseeded Baylor in Oregon & unseeded S.Carolina faced unseeded Colorado in Minneapolis in last year's first matches...Who wouldn't want to see Texas St. & RICE vs SDU in a Dallas environment in mid Dec? I'm pretty sure the women of SDU have seen their fair share of snow and cold temps, so nothing new in Lincoln, Omaha or Minnie...just saying

Just because some teams travel more than 400 miles the first weekend doesn't mean there aren't travel restrictions. The odds against a field of 64 teams where every team played the first weekend within 400 miles of their campus are astronomical. Some teams (usually in the range of 15-25) are going to get sent 400+ miles. It's highly unlikely that South Dakota would be one of those teams.

I lived in Sioux Falls, SD for one year. Military brat thing. Don't remember anything. We visited Mt. Rushmore but I don't have any memory of it.

The solution is provided up above in this thread ... take some Bison riding lessons and you shouldn't be scared of anything.

Some teams (usually in the range of 15-25) are going to get sent 400+ miles. It's highly unlikely that South Dakota would be one of those team I'm not sure it is as uncommon as you think it is... Creighton hosting had St. Mary's(Cal) & Washington along with SDU last year. Stanford hosting had Duke & Alabama St along with LMU last year Nebraska hosting had AZ & Hofstra along with Mizzou Wash St. hosting had Tenn, Colorado St. & Northern AZ as mentioned earlier, Oregon hosting had N.Mexico St. Hawaii & Baylor and Minnie hosting S.Carolina, Colorado & Bryant that is 6 out of 16 brackets who had teams travel further than one would expect and I didn't even get into regionals, with those cross continent matches. Now, when I stated my qualifiers for how SDU would go 3 deep, I specifically stated it depended on the bracket and the luck of the draw...I mentioned getting an unseeded team in the 1st match and an overrated seeded team in the 2nd. I gave examples...you are countering me with non absolutes for which 1/3 of the brackets on first weekend of 2018 defied your position & terms. Maybe just say you disagree or think it unlikely and move on? Attempting to disprove my hypothetical is silly, regardless of your opinion, all you are doing is throwing shade on SDU and not much else. Their one thread and you have to be a hater by debating someone's hypothetical position?

There is that whole revenge factor...Sammie against Lexi/Madi As well as the contrast to that...Jazz causing those South Dakota people to root for both teams as well as Sammie and Jazz playing across court from one another again and the reminiscing that will inspire.

I was a bit off in my preseason prediction thread guess on the Yotes record, and happily so! Fun fact: just like us South Dakotans mispronounce the name Pierre (it’s one syllable, sounding like peer) - we also can tell if you have any idea what you’re talking about based on how you pronounce Coyotes. (It’s only two syllables when referring to the team. Like Ky-oats. When referring to the animal and not the team, though, we typically pronounce it with three syllables.) If you ever get to Vermillion make sure to get some chislic at Main Street Pub! Also, it’s not referred to as SDU. It’s USD.

Rapid City in the west is a really nice place that punches above its population level. The Badlands are one of the most unique places in the US and just to the west, the Black Hills have some underrated snow skiing. To the east near Vermillion, Yankton has a very nice bike trail that goes all the way to their very large lake.

South Dakota missed out on the whole riding-the-coattails fame thing with Fargo because it's located one state too south.

So, people have been flocking to Dubrovnik, Croatia because Game of Thrones was filmed there. Ditto Chernobyl in Russia because of the miniseries of the same name, but no one flocks to South Dakota despite Deadwood?

Plus one of those National Treasure films was (supposedly) filmed at Mount Rushmore so who wouldn’t want to go there to find the city of gold?
