That class of 2020 rivalry between SCVC and Balboa Bay has been epic for years now - just an all out battle, every match Why wasn't Sebastian Rodriguez playing?

Looked like his knee was giving him trouble. Played the first set Sunday against Rockstar and no more for the rest of the day.

16s was very interesting to watch. MVVC 16 Red wins it all after starting slow, losing to SB coast who they eventually beat in the finals. They beat Surf, Balboa both in 2 sets. SB Coast taking second was unexpected, but after MVVC, Surf, and Balboa ended up on one side of the bracket in Gold, SB Coast found their way to the finals, beating AZ Fear in 3. 16s - SurprisesIt's hard to argue that SB Coast wasn't the biggest news of the tourney in 16s. I don't know what changed (players look the same), but that was a different team. The second biggest surprise (to me) was just how well BB White played. That's a very good -1s at almost any other club, and their high ranking/seed is neither a fluke nor undeserved. Third was Pulse. It doesn't necessarily show in some of their scores, but they are on the edge of top tier, and mentally tough. How many teams force 3 sets after losing 25-11? (to MVVC). Top 8There were, unfortunately, some injuries that impacted teams. OH2 for Surf went down on Saturday (sprain is the word), and while still very, very, very good, they don't appear to be as deep, or as dominating as last year in some rotations. One of MVVC's middles was out with broken hand - per a parent, will miss all the bid tourneys. I'd argue that they didn't, in fact, start slow. Their only misstep was a three set loss to SB Coast in R2, which forced a gold/silver play in match against Pac Rim on Sunday, and maybe getting pushed a bit by Pulse (as above, I credit Pulse for that, though). The "new" lefty oppo was as advertised, in addition to the typically high level of the balance of the team. There were quite a few -14/15 games - showing to me, anyway, that there's a lot of separation between the top 8 (or so) teams and the rest of the field - so be careful what you wish for if you're following a team in that field.

That kid Rottman is someone to watch out for.

Is Wedbush or Snyder setting or are they running a 6-2? They both played a lot. Wedbush set the whole time in the semis and finals.

SCVC and Balboa have such great consistency in defense and passing. Sharp and Balboa's liberos just fly around the court making play after play.

I saw that, thought maybe Snyder was hurt - guess Hildebrand just liked how they matched up with BB with Wedbush in the 5-1. Heard Wedbush just committed to Princeton, impressive kid.
