and when some one does I hope face length is part of the calculus. Assuming: 1) Reach is roughly two feet above height, as stated above for 6'8 players, 2) The average face is 10 inches (Stoya is probably 16 but I digress) and probably begins 1-2 inches below top of head 3) The average FIVB blocker gets at least 1/2 - 2/3s of their face above the net (exceptions in both directions) Then the average block jump is around 24-27 inches and exceptional blockers - those who get full face over, its 30 plus. Im sure somewhere there are legit block jump numbers out there so please share if anyone has actual measurements but if its as low as 20, especially on some of this "Daytona-ish" FIVB sand, Id be shocked.

I was guessing 24" is average jump in average sand. That is what I wrote and think it is reasonable. You can find block touch for all teh international indoor players. measuring on sand will vary based on sand but I think 4-6" less is maybe reasonable??? And "24" + ht = reach" might be a fair average for tall players but doesn't scale for shorter and there is a large variation among all players. At least 4" but 6" wouldn't surprise me for a short arm vs long armed individual.

It's so weird. I came to this thread to find some tea on Women's Partner Switches. Either I got lost on the way, or this thread took a steep left turn somewhere around the end of page 1.

At least 4" but 6" wouldn't surprise me for a short arm vs long armed individual. definitely doesn't scale because of variance in arm/hand size and overall athleticism. some small guys jump crazy high. some big guys also can jump crazy high but it's more rare (cough cough Anders). And some guys are super lucky like Pedro Salgado and Pablo Herrera who both stand at 6'4 but have the same reach as guys who are 6'6-6'7 due to crazy long arms. I absolutely do agree though that at the end of the day what matters is overall maximum height/penetration over the net and then their ability to time and read hitters. At 6'1 even with a great jumping ability you just wouldn't get high enough to stop FIVB attackers so there is definitely a lower limit (Maybe 6'4?) due to deficiency in standing reach+maximum 30" standing jump. Thoughts?

Could someone send up a flare when actual "Women's Partner Switches" are discussed?

Will Lane Carico be back this season? She would like to play. She doesn’t have a partner right now. She’s trying to get into some practices.
