Yep - not sure when that changes. There were no 1 set playoffs as in the past. A one set playoff resolves a tie only when advancement towards a bid is in question. If a two way tie, and both teams advance there is no playoff. Today in both 18 open and 16 open there were three way ties that were resolved with a one set playoff. The team with the highest winning set percentage advances to first place and a one set playoff between 2nd and 3rd place determines who advances. If a bid is not in question, no playoff.

According to USA Bid Tournament Manual 20 teams in the 14s is 4 open bids. Max # of Bids Awarded in Each Division 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Min # of Teams in Field 6 10 14 18 22 26 28 30 32 I saw that too but apparently they are giving 9 to Chicago with less teams than JBI who only had 6 bids... oh well. ‘Grow the Game’ (away from the Coast) I guess.

Looks like the two (6 team gold bracket) teams that lost in the quarterfinals had a Playoff for a single bid, so I'd assume one of the semifinalists either had a bid or declined their bid and 4 bids (see: not 9) were given out.
For once men's volleyball on the West Coast doesn't get the shaft.

Can somebody post who got bids? Does this mean that at large bids will be doled out by some people in a smoke filled back room? Seems like they are required to give out the #of bids slated at the start of the tournament.

For 14 Open, Bay to Bay was third at SCVA JBI and should have a bid, thus two Peueto Rico teams and K2C2 earned bids as SemiFinalists. HP StL won playoff for that 4th 14 Open Bid. In 16s, HP StL and Bay to Bay had bids and usually Finalist from Canada (seed 45 in 16 Open) will refuse their bid. Thus 9 bids cover all Gold and Silver teams to 12th place in 16 Open. As predicted early in this thread, 20 seed K2C2 defeated Hp Stl in 2 and 352 in the 2-1 tie break (1 to 25) round 2, as well as sending Vaqueros to Silver in 2. There was some awesome play by all teams involved and a shame that the seeding committee wouldn't listen to the input. Having seeds 12, 20 and 45 in the final 6 is kinda funny for the 16 open field of 45.

352 deserves an at large bid in 16 Open for their strong play to go 9-1 and place one spot out of bids with a 1.32 points percentage. I am starting the write in vote for 352. They made multiple passes and digs of the hardest serves and hits you will ever see in 16s and they're always great competitors.

Was looking at the results from today and have a question re: how three way ties were decided. In looking at the pool sheets on AES, there are no playoff sets shown. If I remember correctly, in the past there was always a playoff (1 set) for the last spot to stay in gold contention. Doesn't look like that was the case today. Does anyone know if the tie break rules were changed? Yep - not sure when that changes. There were no 1 set playoffs as in the past. There was a change in tie breaking procedures in the bid manual.
In the event of a 3 way tie teams are ranked by set percentage. If 1 team has a better or worse set percentage than the others they will be separated off and the remaining two teams will be based on head to head. With no tie breaker being used. This was only published in the Bid manual so unless you read that 45 page document you might have missed it. Also Open divisions are back to 36 teams this year no long 42.
The only way a 3 way tie will be played off is if all 3 teams have the same set percentage.

They still have the Florida qualifier... but they should get an at large if they fail to qualify in that one...

Well they lost a tiebreaker set to fall down in to a lower bracket on Day 2, this happens all the time at qualifiers But best of luck in the rest of the season.

Does anyone have the list of who got bids? Curious to know as it changes the landscape for Florida this weekend.
