Less than 48hrs until the portal opens! A modest request for The Volleyball Gods to consider:
One top tier OH to The Badgers. Thank you.

No one can enter the portal until May, unless they are a walkon correct? pretty sure undergrads are limited to May 1-15 and graduates are allowed to enter at any time regardless of scholarship status I just read this (when looking at the dates for women's hockey), and I didn't know it before: grad transfers can enter the portal anytime after August 1st (IIRC) of their college senior year, but their opportunity to enter as a grad transfer closes when the undergrad window closes. That is, I believe a grad transfer looking to play VB in the fall would now be subject to the same May 15 portal ending date.

I actually thought grad transfers who want to play this fall have to be in the portal by May 1st.
"The council also heard from the Legislative Committee on an update to graduate transfer waiver guidelines. The Legislative Committee noted that notification-of-transfer deadlines of May 1 for fall and winter sports and July 1 for spring sports apply to graduate transfers transferring for the first time, and that beginning in 2024-25, graduate students seeking waivers for postgraduate eligibility will need to comply with those same deadlines. " The document where I read that last week is not available at the moment. But it was describing the "one time transfer" process, so maybe they've taken it down in light of the "one time" part changing. It had had a "April 2024" publish date, so... ? LOL "May 1" might have been when the sports had a 45 day window, and not the "30 plus 15" that is in effect this year? It's hard to keep up! ------------------- Found it under a different URL: "Postgraduate students: Student-athletes who are on track to complete their undergraduate degree by end of the year (e.g., two semesters) may be entered into the Transfer Portal at any time between August 1 and the end of the student-athlete's sport-specific transfer window." fs.ncaa.org.s3.amazonaws.com/Docs/eligibility_center/Transfer/TransferFAQ.pdf

Doesnt WI have an incoming freshman? I thought they did. I’m sure they will get an OH this cycle, just curious on depth outside of Orzol and Franklin.

Shadd-Ceres (Canadian) should be joining the badgers in 2024. However she’s drastically undersized (5’9) for a Wisconsin pin and based on everything I could find about her, she seems to be more of a track and field star. I wonder if she’ll be a dual sport athlete.

Height is important, but how high you actually contact the ball matters a lot more... see 6'4 batenhorst vs 5'7 gillen / luper for example lol

Trinity has major hops.. jumping 10 ft 7 inches. She’s very athletic (watch the link) and she’s actually trying out for the Canadian Olympic Track and Field team!! www.hudl.com/v/2NuVsv

She’s very athletic (watch the link) and she’s actually trying out for the Canadian Olympic Track and Field team. www.hudl.com/v/2NuVsvThe Badgers list her as a 5'11" OH. Hudl lists her as 5'10". Here's what Sheff had to say as of 4/17/24:
"There’s a chance that they [The Sheffield family] could be joined in Paris by Shadd-Ceres, who is one of the top long jumpers in her native Canada. 'They [Canadian National Olympic Team] feel like she has a really good chance of making the roster,' Sheffield said. Shadd-Ceres will have to meet the Olympics qualifying standard of 6.86 meters (22.5 feet). Her career best according to World Athletics is 6.49 meters (21.29 feet). The qualification period runs through June 30.
Although she has excelled in track and field — she’s run 100 meters in 12.15 seconds — there’s no question that her priority will be volleyball once she arrives in Madison.
'It’s amazing the talent she has for a sport she says she doesn’t particularly enjoy that much' [Track] Sheffield said. 'This kid is a really, really special track athlete. The kid loves volleyball. That’s where her heart is right now. She’s got talent to be pretty special. She’s got to get used to the speed and power of the college game, but her ceiling is awfully special. We’re hoping she misses the first few days of preseason where she’s still over there in Paris. But if she’s not able to make that, she’ll get in here [Madison] a little bit sooner.' ”
FYI, The Olympics Closing Ceremony is 8/11/24.

He admitted last year that he "whiffed on her". I'm hoping that Shadd-Ceres might be the next Chicoine.

I don’t think it would be worst case scenario if WI cannot land an OH transfer this offseason. Orzol is a very talented OH2 and L if she needs to be. But with that said, I still think WI will target an OH starting tomorrow.
