Bids from Sunshine 17 Open Arizona Storm / AZ Sky / Dallas Skyline I just looked at the scores in the gold bracket! Arizona Storm must be something special. Beat TAV 25-14;25-14 and then championship 25-18;25-16. Pretty dominant wins.

I was impressed how well they defended, and their offense is always lethal. Clearly there's a reason why they have maked GJNC finals for 3 straight years, winning 2.

Shocked to see Munciana Samurai at MEQs! Given how late USAV Nationals are this year, we may see more teams do both. There’s 2-3 weeks in between AAUs and USAVs

There’s 2-3 weeks in between AAUs and USAVs I think it’s likely we’ll see a lot of USAV teams at AAUs this year. I have little to no desire to be in Las Vegas with my youngsters again this summer, and even less desire to be there that late in July.

There are always quite a few USAV qualifying teams that do both. As was mentioned, Munciana doesn’t generally do USAV, but are at a qualifier this weekend. The spread in dates is likely to draw some of the traditionally AAU only teams to consider doing both, if for no other reason than they get an extra month of training in.

It could be the new owners of Munciana - 3StepSports are pushing for this as well. KIVA is also owned by 3Step and they are playing at MEQ this season as well.
3Step is certainly making some changes with their acquisitions. Have to think making Bluegrass a 3 day tournament was their decision and I am sure they have their hands in some other things.

Did you plan on vacationing in Vegas until late July, Nationals ends on the 11th!

I am not sure if the goal is to qualify. Of the teams to do so, it would most likely be Samurai, and those nationals are in about a month. Wouldn't deter their schedule too much as they do 18s at AAUs. This also could be the move for the 18s due to the quick disappearance of the 18s division at AAUs anyway. For KIVA, last year was their first time at a qualifier and I believe for similar reasons. Just for good comp and to see what happens. They ended up earning the third bid in 16 Open and chose to accept it. Believe they only sent their 16s team at that time too. Now, they're sending everybody

The JVA elevating AAU Nationals means teams like Muncie and KIVA don't have to travel to chase bids, but now that AAU isn't going anywhere, the plusses of MEQ are too good to pass up.

MEQ is absolutely stacked with great teams this season. It has always been one of the toughest qualifiers but I think it has gone to the next level this year. I looked down through the 16s and 17s Open Divisions and almost a lot of pools on Friday have 3 teams you can see making it to the 2nd Saturday still competing for Gold. I wish the Qualifiers would figure out a way to reseed on day 2 with at least 3 of the 4 teams still being in the mix because a number of the pools on Day 1 are stacked.
