Wait, so ToT canceled due to weather, but Windy City has no issues. OK. Tour of Texas is not a qualifier. No need to play today with a forecast of possible ice. I wasn’t making a judgement, simply pointing out the irony of Texas canceling, Chicago having no issue.

If you've seen us Texans driving on ice and snow, there is no irony. Also the extent of our "snow equipment" is a truck with sand or salt in it. I do understand what you're saying.

Yesterday afternoon in Houston it got sketchy on the way to airport…29 degrees after a wet day, police and fire were EVERYWHERE I saw several collisions and spin outs, one truck was sideways pinned against both barriers on South Loop East in a massive Interchange. Thank goodness we missed all that. Almost every single flight from Hobby and Bush was very delayed and several cancelled. Next year let’s do “Tour of south Florida MLK Weekend!” 🌞🌞🌞

Just got back from the Lonestar Classic 18s in Austin. Watched TAV play and they are head and shoulders better than any of the other teams. Spears is a very powerful player, as is Favor (forgot her last name) who is going to play for USC.

I noticed Madfrog beat Houston Skyline which seems like an upset.

Looked on AES and looks like TAV was beat by Houston skyline who was number one seed until they got upset yesterday.

My question is if you are 17 why are you playing up in 18s with a shortened season? On top of that, many of the top 18s are not even playing club so the competition is better in 17s. Is this strictly the club pushing that to try to win a championship at the expense of those 17s? I would suggest that length of season has a lot to do with it. With club going into July further each year that amount of break the kids get is getting to near nothing. There are folks that want some family time for a vacation or just for their kids bodies to have some time to get right so playing up on 18s allows them to finish their season in April. And if recruiting isn't an issue and they are already committed then why not take your last summer to have some family time and normalcy with all the other summers and holidays you've given up. It goes by SO fast and it's easy to look back at all the things you didn't get to do because of volleyball commitments (which was awesome as well) but if you have a chance to make some time to do some things, plus get to actually work out, recover, work on technical skills and have a little down time, I would do it in a heartbeat looking back. Quite honestly, i wish my daughter would have played 18s more than once. Lower level 18s players are still pretty damned good that are still choosing to play their 18s year. I also can't state how different the vibe is at 18s vs. previous years. It's positive, celebratory, less anxious and lighter than at the younger age groups (at least in my experience) and it came through with the kids on the team as well. You don't use nearly as many 'burnout points' in an 18s season as you do in other years. It's also cheaper because of the abbreviated season. One final note. The girls can actually focus on just being students at the end of the school year and really put their energy towards end of semester, finals and really enjoy the last few weeks of school vs. extra practices getting ready for nationals at night while juggling homework and end of semester projects and tests. Also, for elite recruits like Davis and Spears, it's also probably a "who cares" for them. They don't need to impress the colleges they've already committed to by showing up players in their own class, they can still end their prep career with a nationals trophy, they still get reps, and can be more fresh for the inevitable USAV training block.

Can someone explain to me in simple terms why teams just don't use AES?
I swear, every year, Northern Lights is trying to pimp some new alternative site which is supposed to be "The future of on-line Volleyball Scheduling" but it's totally awful and looks like a fifth grader put it together.

Teams have to use all of them... as far as tournaments go---its all about $$$$$. AES has improved...at one point, it was the worse of the systems, in my opinion---but was still chosen by USAV (who you know matters)

I wish I knew. I wouldn't be surprised if it's just the same app with a new domain and some cosmetic touchups every year so they can get some other clubs to try and pay them for the service. That seems like a very Northern Lights thing to do.
