Latvia beat Italy in 2 (19, 13). They played very well. Good game to watch if you're a fan of the Latvians.
I hope they medal. All the way from the qualies to the semis. Lesssgoooo.

Agreed. Tina / Ana were inconsistent before the 2021 Olympics, but they were European champions and when they defeated Slukova/Hermanova in the Olympic qualifier the Czechs were ranked 4th in the world (if not mistaken). The Latvians earned a pool spot in the third "basket" - and defeated RUS Makroguzova in the first round and Wlikerson in the quarters. Czechs may have been ranked that high but it was off old performances. Not sure how they fell so far so fast but after a run of 2 wins and 2 seconds in 6 full field events, they basically fell off a cliff after the first event of 2019. By the time Haiyang happened they probably weren't top 10 in the world. I think there were injuries, but can anyone confirm what happened? Those two were so good then they basically became a middle of the table team I’ve always wondered this myself. The Czechs were as good a team as any in 2018 and I thought they’d be a Tokyo medal contender for sure. Only thing I can figure is that maybe they got lost in the trend toward taller blockers and Hermannova just couldn’t compete with the giants at the net anymore.

Rough start for Chughes. This is always a tough matchup for them.

High wind generally affects the attacking of short people a lot more

Swiss were just steamrolling, hitting lines on serves, attacks, and overdigs. Then Brunner FINALLY sprayed a ball at 6-6 in Set 2 and now USA is rolling in Set 2 as she's starting to break down and USA is passing.

What an end to the match. Rebecca was a master at the bump kill.

Who had “free ball cutty “ ftw in the third there on their bingo card?

CHENNNGGGG, what a genius with the subtle bump kill for the 15-13 win!! Classic Chughes match getting destroyed in the first, destroying in the second, then winning a deuce third set. Hope we get to see a MHB/Chughes final.

Carol owning Laura at the end of that match, what a shame. Bad call at 10-11 changed the momentum.

I'm going Latvian's to upset MHB and the Brazilian's to upset Chughes! High chance I'm wrong on both games. Lol

Carol owning Laura at the end of that match, what a shame. Bad call at 10-11 changed the momentum. Did the ref really call for a replay after that collision under the net? Agree, that was a terrible call. Looked like Carol was way under and Lippmann did not interfere. Brazil should’ve lost that point.

Carol owning Laura at the end of that match, what a shame. Bad call at 10-11 changed the momentum. The replay? Lippmann impeded Carol. Lippmann got the block and then fell over Carol. Lippmann was over or on top of Carol and interfered with Carol getting up to play the ball. I think it was the right call.

Lippmann was on her side of the net, I'm not sure what if the beach rule is different but in indoors, you can impede with the opponent's movement if the impediment occurs entirely on your own side of the net. Germany did win the replay, however. Their mental game slipped and that's on them.

Carol with a couple big blocks down the stretch.

I've wondered the same and ALSO, with Marketa available now (post pregnancy and child) is she "off the table" as far as a partner switch for Hermannova ? Assume her speed is down (Slukova), but wondering . . .
