Carol slid under. Lippmann was on her side of the net, I'm not sure what if the beach rule is different but in indoors, you can impede with the opponent's movement if the impediment occurs entirely on your own side of the net. Germany did win the replay, however. Their mental game slipped and that's on them. That’s the way I saw it too. But I also agree, Germany melted down after that play. Carol with a couple big blocks down the stretch. Not a rules expert but don't see how that isn't Germany's point. Lippman is completely on her side of the net, gets taken out at the legs, and tries to get up immediately. If she did anything overt to keep Carol from getting up, maybe, but that didn't happen. Took some brass for Carol to act like she was the injured party, but the ref bought it.

I’ve always wondered this myself. The Czechs were as good a team as any in 2018 and I thought they’d be a Tokyo medal contender for sure. Only thing I can figure is that maybe they got lost in the trend toward taller blockers and Hermannova just couldn’t compete with the giants at the net anymore. I've wondered the same and ALSO, with Marketa available now (post pregnancy and child) is she "off the table" as far as a partner switch for Hermannova ? Assume her speed is down (Slukova), but wondering . . . Slukova was a beast. One of the best defenders with an average blocker. Her comeback would be better than Bansley's or KWJ's if she had a decent blocker partner. But she's 35 now. Two years younger than Ludwig. It would be great to have trans-national teams for players like Marketa Slukova.

The wording is a bit ambiguous but generally the person playing the ball has to be allowed to play the ball from under the net, even if it is on the opponents side of the net

Rough start for Chughes. This is always a tough matchup for them. when have they not had a rough start in the past few months? They seem to have a strategy of giving first sets away with little resistance.

High wind generally affects the attacking of short people a lot more sure I can see that. But windaffects serve receive, bump setting and general ball control of Bigs a lot more.

Carol owning Laura at the end of that match, what a shame. Bad call at 10-11 changed the momentum. The replay? Lippmann impeded Carol. Lippmann got the block and then fell over Carol. Lippmann was over or on top of Carol and interfered with Carol getting up to play the ball. I think it was the right call. yes, terrible call. Throw yourself into the other person's court and get a replay on your lost point. For sure affected their mental steadiness, got therm out of a groove.

They seem to have a strategy of giving first sets away with little resistance. That’s true. Honestly I was impressed they turned it around today. Even when they were fighting back in the second, Kelly’s body language looked defeated. Really great to see them fight through. A finals matchup with MHB might go 21-0 0-21 with Canada’s fast starts and breakdowns matched with Chughes slow starts 😂

Took some brass for Carol to act like she was the injured party, but the ref bought it. Just watched it again, and the down ref initially ruled the point for Germany. Not sure what the up ref saw that got him to call for a replay. Maybe he though the contact was incidental and the down ref whistled it prematurely? Carol wasn't playing the ball under the net, she poked it over the net and then her momentum carried her into Lippman's legs. At least half her body was on the sand on Germany's side. Both commentators thought it was a terrible call also.

On the womens side its the uber-tall that suffer the most in the heavy winds. Alix is notoriously terrible with a lot of wind, Pavan in Cancun was whiffing on in system swings, not even touching the ball, and you see Kloth giving up ace after ace on simple float serves. Glad I didnt stay up to see AP/Duda continue their poor play. Ugh.

Finally caught up on the women’s games and this has been an exciting tournament for me. Could be because I was so bored without beach volleyball and I’m just happy it’s back lol Most exciting for me is to see the Latvian women make it to the semi finals all the way from the qualifier. I was also excited to see LLLL break pool and make it to quarter finals. Ludwig is a joy to watch and I love to see them have some success. I know they always have it in them, but Brandie and Mel taking down AP/Duda was not on my bingo card. I like Brasil but I also like to see other teams on the podium. Chughes was a given, even though I wanted SUI to win after beating my favorite team, TKN. Speaking of TKN, what on earth happened? Lots of errors and Kloth seemed so uninterested?

Germany did win the replay, however. Their mental game slipped and that's on them. Accidental contact under the net is fair game within reason. Interference is only called if crossing the net affects the play on the ball. Lippmann blocked the ball and it ended up on Brazil's side. Lippmann needs to get up and be ready for the next rally. Carol has to do the same but she can't because Lippmann is standing over her and preventing her from getting up normally. Lippmann is out of play and the call is based on Carol's ability to get up and play the ball which was impeded by Lippmann. It was called a replay because the ref sees Carol as the initiator of the contact and she has a decent amount of her body on Germany's side. There are plenty of accidental touches under the net from attackers and blockers. Refs don't make a call and award the point to whoever scored. Rarely do they give points for interference because of contact under the net.

No call is the correct call and point to Germany.

Kloth gave up a bunch of points on service receive, but the match was only close because she earned even more on serve. Nuss just made way too many errors. She’s often very good, but I think folks forget how high risk her placements and shots are.
