Finally caught up on the women’s games and this has been an exciting tournament for me. Could be because I was so bored without beach volleyball and I’m just happy it’s back lol Most exciting for me is to see the Latvian women make it to the semi finals all the way from the qualifier. I was also excited to see LLLL break pool and make it to quarter finals. Ludwig is a joy to watch and I love to see them have some success. I know they always have it in them, but Brandie and Mel taking down AP/Duda was not on my bingo card. I like Brasil but I also like to see other teams on the podium. Chughes was a given, even though I wanted SUI to win after beating my favorite team, TKN. Speaking of TKN, what on earth happened? Lots of errors and Kloth seemed so uninterested? Kloth gave up a bunch of points on service receive, but the match was only close because she earned even more on serve. Nuss just made way too many errors. She’s often very good, but I think folks forget how high risk her placements and shots are. Match was mostly close, at least in the 3rd, because the Swiss were choking and making terrible plays. Then Kloth would just give it back with her awful passing. She gave up at least 3 float serve aces where she barely needed to move, after they had their first match point. Kloth's insane efficiency on offense and solid block is the no. 1 reason this team wins, and I agree Kristen is overrated because it looks amazing to see a tiny person do those things, but Taryn gave this match away.

MHB snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in game 2 despite Brandie dominating for a game and a half. Mel bumping the ball into the net from 5 feet off, while trying to give Latvia a free ball at 18-17 (not trying for a difficult shot at all) was maybe the most Canada play I have ever seen. If they can refocus, the 3rd should be all theirs though

Accidental contact under the net is fair game within reason. Interference is only called if crossing the net affects the play on the ball. Lippmann blocked the ball and it ended up on Brazil's side. Lippmann needs to get up and be ready for the next rally. Carol has to do the same but she can't because Lippmann is standing over her and preventing her from getting up normally. Lippmann is out of play and the call is based on Carol's ability to get up and play the ball which was impeded by Lippmann. It was called a replay because the ref sees Carol as the initiator of the contact and she has a decent amount of her body on Germany's side. There are plenty of accidental touches under the net from attackers and blockers. Refs don't make a call and award the point to whoever scored. Rarely do they give points for interference because of contact under the net. Ridiculous take. Lippmann is completely on her side and gets up without impeding Carol. No call is the correct call and point to Germany. It's my interpretation of the rules. I agree with the refs call. The ref who is an FIVB trained ref.

Canada win in 3. Tina should never hit on 2. It's so predictable.
Ugly game.

Kelly struggling massively in sideout to start this semi. Barbara is all over her on defense and Carol with pull digs for days.

Barbara/Carol by far the best team on Tour in high wind relative to their level of play with no wind. There is virtually no difference to them.

21-11 ouch. On to the second. Kelly’s gonna have to find something if they want to turn this around.

Canada win in 3. Tina should never hit on 2. It's so predictable. Ugly game. Agree entirely. So many of the women's matches are just a contest to see who makes the fewest errors. I know there is a lot of wind, but the number of points these guys were giving up with sloppy play is remarkable. For example around 11 all in the third or so, Tina got a good set with the line wide open. Then she hit the ball about 5 feet out on a simple roll shot, but got the point because Brandie netted. It seems like many of these teams are coached to be uber-aggressive and I'd be very curious to see what a more conservative approach might achieve

Ooooo that fake hand set tricky hit into the corner on two at 5-3 - classic Cheng! Maybe that’ll light something for her! 💪

Carol is so speedy. Her ability to chase down shanked passes/digs is remarkable.

Carol with a couple of consecutive blocks dragging Brazil back into this second. Can't remember ever seeing Carol with 3 blocks in a game, much less within 5 points
