Poster thevolleymaster brought to our attention in another thread a qualifying competition hosted by USAV to determine the USA representative to the NORCECA Finals in mid May.
This is important in the race to earn the USA2 berth for Paris. Winner gets 800 points, Silver is 760, and I think just showing up is worth 720... not sure if I understood that part correctly.
Neither the above link, nor the link provided within that link, specifies if it is 8 teams or 16 team, nor whether it is 1 team qualifying, or 2 teams. Nor at what time the competition starts. Apparently thevollymaster knows it is 8 teams. Nothing about NORCECA or USAV is easily understood, explained, or publicized for fans.
Since USAV seems to not think fans would be interested in such an event, otherwise how to you explain their complete social media silence around qualifying events the past couple of years, I think this Board is a good place to let people know. Thus this post.
I'm thinking of going. Should be a bloodbath, esp. if it is for only one USA spot. Almost a guaranteed 720 points, more likely 800 points, that other USA men's teams won't have access to. I don't know if Cuba is participating,in these NORCECA finals, but why wouldn't they?
Mudinger are only 140 points behind Treo at this moment counting Top 10 point finishes. If it is 1 team representing USA, the winner will have a huge boost in winning the race for USA2.

Problem is if they cancel and reschedule, we'd have no way of knowing outside of a post on this Board ....

Link within that link usavolleyball.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/USAV-NORCECA-Beach-Volleyball-Event-Nomination-Regulations.pdf“5. Competition Format 5.1 Norceca Playoffs will be played either as an 8 or 16 team playoff as outlined below A. Eight team playoff - Single elimination with a playoff for 3rd place” I can’t imagine they are opening the Norceca Continental Final to 16 teams during an Olympic qualifying year, so it must be 8. In all honesty they should probably limit it to 4 considering the teams that actually have a shot at Paris.

Also, the Norceca continental final Andy and Miles won last year was an 8 team qualifier. So this should be the same

Any wind under 20 mph should allow for good volleyball. Actually I was at a multiteam college Beach event in around 2013, with gusts over 25mph and sustained around 20mph, I think it was Santa Monica, and ... it was interesting. You could serve as hard as you could and it would move all over the place. Sets would move over two feet on their way down. You couldn't topspin serve b/c your toss would move too much. Harder to cleanly hand set for the same reason.

I didn't expect to see them since they don't need the points. Their passing on it also opens up the path for Treo and Mudinger to improve their position in the fight for a second USA berth.
It's been so long I forgot what we call them.. Milandy? Partandy? Anyway if they needed points they would be playing Guadalajara, and they're not. Just Tepic.

weather.com has changed its Friday forecast to 54% rain, wind 22mph wsw. Those are tough conditions. Isn't that like the Florida AVP about 18 months ago?

Menesh for me. Sounds like menace. Menacing block, menacing juke steps on defense.
