Merritt Beason is a senior co-captain for the University of Nebraska women’s volleyball team and a returning AVCA First-Team All-American. The Alabama native joins Terry Pettit to talk about leading with empathy, the 2023 NCAA championship match, as well as the changes she is making to become an even stronger player during the upcoming NCAA volleyball season. We have had several student-athletes as guests. Merritt may have more innate insight into the peope around her than anyone I have interviewed. You can access the podcast at terrypettit.com/merritt-beason-leadership-on-the-court-itcm-60/link

Yes, it's great to get to hear from the players and know them a bit more as people. I really enjoyed hearing about Merritt's journey.

Instead of leading with empathy, the next podcast can be, "Following with self righteousness and a sense of entitlement" starring various volleytalk posters. Torches and pitchforks available.

I’m sorry your parents never loved you. My mom sure did before she was killed by a DUI in Nebraska by a college student at the wheel. You haven’t lived a minute in my shoes so continue trolling.

I’m sorry your parents never loved you. My mom sure did before she was killed by a DUI in Nebraska by a college student at the wheel. You haven’t lived a minute in my shoes so continue trolling. You have four posts on this account all referring to Harper Murray and her DUI arrest. I'm sorry for the loss of your mother. I have lost many people dear to me in my life for all kinds of reasons. I do not get to have sole ownership over every cause of death of the people I love. Your mother's passing does not make you the ultimate moral authority. It gives you a specific perspective, and no one can take that away from you. Nor should they. But you went from telling a bit about your story on the Nebraska thread to making a gratuitous attack on Murray on a thread Terry Pettit thoughtfully posted to give us access to a podcast that you yourself found "beautifully done." It's a sh1tty thing to do, no two ways around it. If you have decided to make Murray's DUI some kind of jihad I sure hope you find avenues other than volleytalk to pursue it, because the post you made on this thread was inappropriate. I'll also point out that while Murray was arrested for DUI, she did not actually in fact hurt anyone. That's an important distinction. She could have. Sure. But you and I could possibly kill someone while driving without the assistance of driving under the influence. I've certainly lost loved ones to car accidents. Injuring someone makes this a different case than potentially injuring someone. She is also a first offender, and that will and should be taken into account as well. Hopefully she learns an important lesson with this mistake and we never hear about something similar happening to her ever again. I'd also invite you to lean into finding ways to experience forgiveness and grace. Not just for others, but for yourself as well. There's some bitterness going on inside you. This isn't the medium for you to shift your perspective, but maybe I can plant a seed that can take root some other time and place in your life.

I love Pettit's description of Landfair's play last season. Very accurate. Luckily not your problem anymore! I'm sure that she'll step it up. I don't see John Cook putting up with a lack of effort on defense.

You obviously have not had to fight for a cause . Cyber bullying is NOT stating what’s on public record = blood alcohol level twice the legal limit, possessing a fake ID, failing to comply with multiple directives from officers, as reported allegedly by the police … cited for DUI as well as careless driving, minor in possession, possession of a fake ID and obstructing a peace officer. Now take a seat and bring your entitlement elsewhere.

Now take a seat and bring your entitlement elsewhere. I think a key component of cyber bullying is that you have to actually have an effect on the person you're bullying. I doubt Murray is considering your feelings one iota. Certainly not as they've been expressed here. What you are doing is shotgunning your thoughts on multiple threads in a hostile and belligerent way. You may be fighting for a cause, but it's not with your posts on volleytalk. On here you're being a nuisance at best, and a bad actor at worst. You've now sidetracked a thread which should be about Beason and her interview and made it about you.
