I agree with Coach CMAC, rotate that defense on Clark when she's operating out of system. Hakas keeps reaching for the ball behind her, like it's the plan. But at the same time, left back and right back are crashing in, leaving no one to pick up the 2nd touch... very confusing. Tip coverage should be top of list to work on next week; if they can convert just 20% more of those tips to points, that would make a big difference. I believe reaching back is taught. I guess Robyn would prefer that the players make an attempt rather than let in fall onto the floor since there is no way to tell if the coverage is close or not. They have been reaching back for balls like that in the past so I’m sure it is taught and recommended by the coaches to reach back. If players continue to do something “abnormal” and the coach doesn’t correct the issue, then it has to be taught.

I’m at my canoe club party and I’m drunk but I’m so proud of these girls
They’ll give me heart attacks but they grind it out
Leyva is mother. Stella is. Queen

But that was over 25 years ago and maybe the philosophy has changed?

I think Robyn teaches this because her pin blockers have traditionally been smaller therefore she wants them to be ready to take a stab at those shorter tips as soon as they land after blocking. I'm not a fan of it much and would rather they employ different defensive schemes ie. a rotation defense. But I've seen them scrap a ton of balls up using the system they are in.

I truly think this team has what I takes to go far
They just have to start better
But when they’re locked in, they’re locked in
Stella has been eating

All I gotta say… the Wahine have a better record than Wisconsin lol And one more thing, Hawaii was able to win the game with a 25-11 set loss Ouch, but true! Wisconsin will be good at some point. I hope it is sooner rather than later! Even with a losing record, Wisconsin is very much a threat to make a deep run

We run traditional tip coverage now. That said, "read and react" is still run very prominently internationally and at higher levels. Without knowing for certain, it's quite possible that Tali was running that system before coming back and hasn't been able to switch back.

It got to be coaching philosophy, Some don’t want the blockers to reach back but some coaches cannot stand the ball hitting the ground when there was a chance to keep the ball up. It’s the first hit and you can practically mangle the ball so I think no harm done sometimes.

But that was over 25 years ago and maybe the philosophy has changed? When executed well, you get a better first contact and can stay in system a lot easier than you can when someone is diving for the ball and it's just going straight up. The problem is that it's hard to execute well/takes a lot of practice/isn't really taught at lower levels so it takes time to adjust.

Can’t wait to watch this match again. Hopefully someone uploaded it! I imagine someone will at some point. There is one Youtube account that is uploading some matches of the mainland teams and then Hawaii sometimes. But Hawaii also has an Youtube channel that is uploading all Hawaii matches. Someone is going to post the upload here, I will also try to post it here if I see it.
