one of my favorite things about NCAA volleyball is watching a player do the longest, most dramatic pre-serve ritual only to put in the most mid serve you've ever seen. Oor was dribbling that ball for a long time. I legit thought she was going to get the serving violation

Congrats to SMU on a big win. They are a REALLY experienced team and have a very high ceiling when firing on all cylinders, obviously (PTSD flashback to 25-7 first set win over Hawai'i).

Interesting strategy from SMU when Rodriguez was on the floor in area 1 serving to her sideline. Nebraska has relied on Rodriguez to pinch players next to her and poach balls as much as possible but that does naturally move her away from the sideline. Really good coaching and scouting and great execution from the SMU squad. They were bombing serves and played great in all phases of the game.

“We got punched in the mouth and we let them keep punching us,” Nebraska coach John Cook said. “I’m pretty disappointed in how we responded tonight, but to be honest I saw this. This was all starting Saturday night. We talked about frustration and we didn’t fix it. We had a great practice last night, but we did not compete tonight. It was pretty disappointing.”
“They’re going to have to step up,” Cook said. “Part of it is we think we’re Nebraska and we’re going to roll out here and smoke teams. This team (SMU) played very inspired tonight. They played great. They won all the long rallies, let’s put it that way. That’s attitude and effort right there.”
Pretty honest take from Cook.

Anyone wondering what is going on with Nebraska and hasn't watched the documentary should. Murray says in the doc she does not have the same confidence she once did, and that is clear watching her play...players share reading comments on social media and not being able to shake them off. Letting this documentary be made during the season was a mistake by Cook... might have helped with inspired volleyball during the season but the crescendo was a giant crack under a daunting amount of pressure for these girls, most just out of high school. The presser after Texas didn't help. Need to get out of their heads as "Nebraska players" and get back to their love of the game, one pass at a time. Hard to watch because most of these girls knew they had big shoes to fill being Huskers, but probably didn't understand the added pressure of having a film crew documenting each move until the big finale...and now a lot of people rooting for them to fail. Cook needs to bring in the best mindset coaches...puke bucket aside. Mental reset. SMU played lights out volleyball.

This match and Minnesota's performance against Texas are two examples of teams just going all-out, no brakes, really confident on the way to huge upsets. I love the style of play.

I joined the broadcast last night around the end of set two. Just watched set 1 and I had no idea of the colossal meltdown NE had in that set after being up 18-13 & 20-15.

if I’m John Cook, I’m inviting Bergen and Andi to a meeting and telling Bergen, “hi, this is your middle Andi Jackson. she’s arguably the most athletic freak in college volleyball right now. you need to set her every time she’s available, especially when she’s doing incredible offensively and your pins are getting housed into the oblivion.”
there’s no reason Andi couldn’t be pushing 3kps this season (like 2.7-2.9 range). she’s unstoppable. and if Bergen sets her high enough there’s not a block that can stop her really either

I recall when the 2021 class (with Orr, Krause, Batenhorst, Rodriguez, Lauenstein, Gray) arrived, there was talk that Cook planned to retire upon their graduation. That's this year. But that class, which was supposed to be the best class ever, by a long shot, has underperformed a ton and isn't winning 3 or 4 titles, and a lot of people find it hard to let go, so I understand being a competitor and wanting to push onward and get that last 'ship. But at the same time, the forces/desires pulling for retirement don't go away either.

Might been the best thing for this team too. Because had be put in Orr, choboy as libero and moves Krause to RS we likely would have won.
