#8 Wisconsin vs. Indiana | Thursday, October 24, 2024 - 6:00 PM Central | Wilkonson Hall - Bloomington, Indiana |
Follow AlongA roundabout, also known as a rotary or traffic circle, is acircular intersection or junction in which road traffic is permitted to flow in one direction around a central island, and priority is typically given to traffic already in the junction. Compared to other types of controlled intersections such as stop signs and traffic signals, modern roundabouts reduce the likelihood and severity of collisions greatly by reducing traffic speeds and minimizing T-bone and head-on collisions. Roundabouts also reduce emissions and fuel consumption by more than 25%, they reduce or eliminate the need for traffic to stop, idle, and start. As of January 2024, Wisconsin has 587 roundabouts, with 305 on state highways and 282 on local roads. Wisconsin has more roundabouts than any other state on its state highway system. As a state, Indiana has only the fifth-most roundabouts in the country, but the Indianapolis suburb of Carmel is working singlehandedly to raise its standing. Known as the Roundabout Capital of the US, the city boasts 158 roundabouts, more than one for every thousand of its 103,093 residents. The granddaddy of them all is the famous (to traffic engineers, anyway) double-teardrop or dogbone-style roundabout at the intersection of 96th Street and Keystone Parkway. This style of roundabout, which has been implemented at many high-crash intersections in the area, has caused an 84% reduction in injury crashes and a 63% reduction in total crashes. Carmel, Indiana is home to Badgers libero Lola Schumacher. Other Indiana natives' hometowns can't keep up: Hoosier libero hails from Pendleton, which has only 4 roundabouts. Fishers, home to middle blocker Ava Vickers, defensive specialist Carly Mills, and setter Camryn Hayworth, has 22. Outside hitter Kenzie Daffinee's hometown of Westfield has 23. Data was not available for Churubusco or Brookston, home to middle blocker Ella Boersema and defensive specialist Emma Segal, respectively.

True trap match for Badgers. Indiana will really come after them at home. IU must rebound quickly.

Feels very trappy-on the road and big purdue match on Saturday. If IU is serving well then badgers will have to be focused and on to win. Hopefully no Haworth heroics

I hope the Badgers are doubling down on serve receive drills today. Honestly, I'm not sure that Indiana is more dangerous than Michigan on the serve. And I think they're easier to get out of system, where our big block can shine. On the other hand, Indiana's floor defense is better imo. I've only watched each team 2 times or so, though, so maybe I just got a wrong impression.

We're spoiled this year as Badger fans. If you have B1G+ and YouTube TV, every remaining season game is on TV! If you have YTTV but not B1G+ (like moi), you're only going to miss the Illinois and Iowa matches, but all the rest are on either FS1, NBC, or B1G networks. Love it!

I look for Indiana to rise up tonight. Their backs are completely up against the wall regarding ncaa tourney chances.

I look for Indiana to rise up tonight. Their backs are completely up against the wall regarding ncaa tourney chances. Their NCAA tourney chances are gone. This is for pride. But for Bucky, this is to keep the ball rolling into their biggest yhree weekends of the season with Purdue then Ne raska then PSU. Wisconsin has a lot of motivation to keep their focus. Going 3-0 against those teams pits them in 1st in the big. I dont see them loosing focus especially with Franklin, Orzol, Smrek, and Robinson providing the senoor leadership to get it done. This crew has shined this time of year their entire Wisconsin careers.

Frankly, I have to laugh at the "trap match" and "rise up" theories, as if these seniors aren't aware of the steep downside to taking a night off and Indiana can win on an adrenaline surge with talent that doesn't compare to The Badgers.
Is it impossible for Indiana to win? No. Will Indiana win? No.

Wisconsin has two bald coach matchups this week. Curious to see how this impacts the team’s approach.
