Not in love with this choice based on what I perceive to be bizarre management choices and lack of in-game coaching on the women's side, but maybe what he does/doesn't do will translate better to the men's side. But if he just wants to put hot people on the team, I can happily sit back and watch this quad. Semi-joking. I think it's a smart move, at least politically. Speraw gets to re-set the Women's NT and its culture--which I think was the goal to begin with--in exchange for one quad with Karch and no internecine battle. If Speraw really goes all out in recruiting for the Women's job, we might conjecture that that was the goal all along.

I thought TJ was gonna retire/do beach? Lol Why would he do that... he's basically 12 in volleyball years and hasn't hit his peak.. there's no money on the beach. Maybe he's falling into the ranks that will retire from national team duties. I don't actually know this, but I'd guess there's no money in the indoor NT either and the calendar for people that feature in NT is brutal.

Goodluck to TJ Defalco lol. Has Karch ever coach a men’s team? He barely coached any team before being given women’s job.

The national team pays the vets pretty well after awhile.. that plus what he's bringing in the Asia leagues should be a no brainer. Again.. he's a baby.

And don't get me wrong, from the women's NT side of the coin, I'm all about this shift.

My understanding is that being an "international" helps get the larger contract in the pro leagues...

Like people have posted, people forget how Karch was as a player.
We'll see how this goes. It could be a disaster. But I don't really understand the hate he gets from his time with the women's team. He won the first gold medal on the women's side in the program's history, and in a quad where it didn't seem they'd compete for a medal, he led them to a silver.
Sign me up for that kind of failure with the men's side of things.
It is interesting from Karch's side. If all the players that were supposedly going to be retiring from the Men's NT stick to that, it'd seem the women's side has a brighter future. Maybe some of the current men's team players let it be known they'd return if the right coach is chosen, and that Karch would be a coach they'd return for.

I thought it was a typo at first ahahahaha.

If you don’t get A Russell, Micah and TJ to come back you can forget ANY ANY chance of a medal on our home court. Those would be the first phone calls I have with my new team.

These 3 are in their prime and don’t need that “ currently on the National Team Pedigree “ to keep landing $700,000 + contracts for years to come. The women did because their windows are shorter and younger guys will maybe hook in to get their chance for exposure.

Karch dumped Logan Tom unceremoniosly on his first day, and then pushed Hooker out a little later. That's what the post was referring to. I don't think people should expect excellent player management and relationships to be Karch's calling card. That doesn't mean he can't win, tho.

The difference is he doesn’t have the luxury of a massive well of talent to pull from that the women’s side offers. Clearly we all realize the approach and road to success will be way different for this program…..but perhaps Karch continues his chameleon abilities in the coaching arena. When your World Class Setter tells your top Asst Coach to “shut up,I’m not F#{£ing blocking line” and throws the towel to the bench and walks back on the floor, it’ll be fascinating to see how Karch handles coaching Men. Lmao!
